OK, I can't get a straight answer out of my DH so I thought I would come and ask all of my DIsney buddies what they think about this idea. I have decided that I am finally going to take the plunge and get a tattoo. I have always wanted one and I figure it is now or never. I thought about getting one relating to my kids but I figured they would think it was too creepy for Mom to have their names tattooed on her when they get older :rotfl: So I had to keep thinking about what else I would want to get. And then it hit me! Something related to :mickey: I originally was thinking of getting Tinkerbell but I don't want something too big and to really show much detail she would have to be larger than I really want. So then I decided on something with Mickey. I finally found the design that I think I am going to go with. Here it is...

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j96/haygan/disneyheadtattoo.jpg

It is the blue Mickey head painted in the center. I'm not sure what colors I will go with but I'm think of styaing the the blue range. I want to get it on my back aout an inch below my neck. I was thinking of it being about 1.5 - 2 inches big.

So what do you think (other than I am completely out of my mind to be getting a tattoo at 34 :rotfl: )

Any comments or other ideas are certainly welcome!

 Ok, just so you know, you can never be too old to get a tattoo!! I may be biased as I have 5 & my 6th already planned (just not done yet)! And guess what?! It's going to be a Mickey head too! I LOVE your design! I think it's great!! I got #5 almost in the same spot as you're getting yours (mines lower) & I love it there!

DH & I said we'd both get Mickey's for the next tattoo & we said they'd be "hidden mickeys" & not tell each other where they are (oh that's sounds bad doesn't it...I promise it's PG) but guess what?! We both picked the same spot! (On our sides about 6 inches below the arm pit!)

So I think it's great! For sure bring your photo in w/you when you meet w/your tattoo artist. Some require an appointment before so they can draw it up & then another appointment to get it! What does DH think? Does he have any?

Be forwarned though....they can be addicting!! Hence #6-to-be!! :p

Keep us posted! I'd love to see how it turns out on you!!

I got my first tattoo when I was 34. (Okay, I'm still 34 and got it just this past January.) Jen is right, it's never too late and once you get that first one you're going to want more!

I have my second one planned but just haven't had the time to get it done. Once my boys get back in school I plan on having it done.

I love the colors and design you've picked out, I hope you post a pic once you've gotten it done!

Thanks for the support guys! What do you think would be good colors for it? Obviously the white will have to be a different color.

Magical JenK

They usually outline in black & then fill in the color that you want. So keep that in mind. Recently I've become very partial to only black, no color. So maybe you could do black & blue? They can do white, but it fades fast. Be sure to put sunscreen on it & that will keep it's color longer too.

I've found that all black hurts a little more than those w/color. But honestly, I find it much more annoying than painful...although, I'm not going to lie, my last one was the most painful. But that pain goes away & you're not getting a HUGE one (DH has one that he's had to sit 7 times & he has one more sitting left!!). But I kinda describe it like a never ending cat scratch. Painful? Sure, but not too horrible....

Ooooh all this talk on tattoos has really gotten me itching for my next!! Can't wait! Maybe when we get back from Disney!!

I knew about the balck outline thing but I was hoping maybe they could outline in dark blue instead. I think I'll consult with an artist or two and see what they think.

I'm getting really antsy about doing it and I really want to have it done before we gone down to WDW in Sept! I'm thinking about having done next weekend!!! I'll post pics when I get it done (after it heals a bit :) )

I think black and a really vibrant blue-ish purple would be cool. Almost along the lines of the colors that are in the Mickey head already.

My tattoo is all black, the artist that did it for me said he was going to do it in black first, then go over it in a really dark blue (I'm thinking like India ink) so it would be vivid but once he got started he said my skin just soaked up the black ink and there was no need to go over it again.

My next one will be black as well, I like the overall look of black tattoos so I'll probably stick with it.

Jen, are you gonna show us your tattoos?!

Jen, are you gonna show us your tattoos?!

Ha! :rotfl: I'll show mine if you show yours!! Since they're not Disney related yet I guess that will have to be another thread!! :) Wouldn't that be fun?! "Post your tattoos Sunshiners!!" I don't have any photos of them really now that I think about it....guess I'll have to get on that!

In the meantime I can just list them (in chronlogical order of course!!)....
-Outline of heart w/leaves on it on the front of my hip. I really should get this one redone as the colors have really faded.
-Dolphin on the inside of my ankle
-Cross on the small of my back (DH & I both have this tattoo)
-Symbol on my wrist
-DH's badge # on my upper back/lower neck

What about you Kitty? What does yours look like & what is your next one going to be?

I have always had a yearning to get a tattoo in the area between your thumb and pointer finger. Something very small. I am such a WIMP that I will never do it but I love that you all have them. Maybe when I hit 34 I will get one as that seems to be the magic age. That gives me 5 years to get over the fear of pain.

Man if 34 is the magic age I have a couple more years to add on to my "collection!! he he he I got my first one at 19. Sometimes I wonder what I'll think about them or what they'll look like when I'm 70!! :0)

I love the idea of one between pointer & thumb!! What would you get?

nolacindy
07-28-2007, 04:38 PM
That would make a very cool tat! I like the idea of black outline with a very vibrant color in the middle, red, purple, blue.

Got my first one at 19 and I will be 34 this year:
1. Small green lizard with red feet and tip of tale on by back.
2. Band around my left ankle. Kind of southwestern, it was a phase.
3. GOOFY!! he is dressed as cupid on my left right calf. (my favorite one)
4. Sun with eyes of Isis on my right upper arm.

Want to get:
5. Skull with cross bones and the "dead men tell no tales" banners( ladylike huh!).
6. Tiki statue.

I think a Disney tattoo thread would be great!

Good luck and make sure you tell us when you get it.

What about you Kitty? What does yours look like & what is your next one going to be?

My one and only is a black fleur de lis on the small of my back--just like the New Orleans Saints.

Next, I would love to have a set of pawprints down the side of my ribcage and waist, ending with a little cat curled up on my hip.

I've also thought about having my two DS's initials done but I don't know if I want to or not. I thought it would be neat to have them done very small on the inside of each of my wrists. Nothing big or flashy...I dunno.

I love your swirly mickey head idea. That would be a unique tattoo. You will definitely need to post a pic when you get it done.

Can anyone that has multiple tattoos tell me what area of your body caused the most pain? I want to get a tattoo on the inside of my wrist but I am a little concerned with the amount of pain. I want the tattoo in a discreet place, but I also want to be able to see it whenever I want, without the need for a mirror or disrobing.

A thread about Sunshiners tattoos would be great! I wonder if Tricia would consider giving anyone a bonus who got a SR tattoo :rotfl:

I'm really thinking of doing this next weekend! I won some $$ at the casino last night and I'm thinking this might be a good use for it!

I know exactly what you mean!! The one on my wrist is one of my most meaningful ones so I wanted to put it somewhere I could see it all the time as a reminder. I didn't hurt any more or less than any other tattoo. People were surprised but it really didn't hurt. More like a cat scratch. I think it didn't really hurt is because 1) there's no bone there & 2) there's not a nerve there (unlike the upper back/lower neck)..what sucked more is while it was healing...you'd be surprised how much you hit your inside of your wrist everyday! Or try to take a shower or tub & not get it wet for 2 weeks!! Or the scabs get caught on clothes...ouch.

I actually had to get it redone 1 year later because when it scabbed there was a blank spot where my wrist wrinkles (?) come together & the scab just skipped that area? I love where I put though & wouldn't hesitate to put one on the other wrist.

Keep us posted!!

I just saw this thread for the first time - that mickey head tattoo is great!!! I love it! I have 2 tattos myself. First I got at 18, winnie the pooh on my right shoulder. For the second, all the girls in my wedding party got the same chinese symbol for friendship on our ankles. I'd love to get more someday!! As others have said, it's VERY addictive!! :p

Count me in!! I finally got my tattoo on Valentine's Day just before my 27th birthday. I figured after having three kids I could handle any pain!:rotfl: It really was not bad at all. I didn't have any pain.

So, now I am 32 and Mickey and Minnie have been hanging around on my ankle for 5 years. I love them. I wanted to make sure Mickey was my first tattoo. The next one planned is for DH, he wants Chernabog on his calf.

I totally plan on getting more, I just don't know what I want yet. They are addicting!!

No I haven't seen it yet. I'll see it on Wednesday. I'm really excited as the guys that work at this place are really talented! I also asked them to put a G,an H and a G inside each of the swirls. The letters are the initials of my 2 boys and DH. I really can't wait to see it and have it done!

I'll make sure to post pics when it is done :sunshine:

I got my first (and so far only) tattoo just after my 20th birthday almost 4 years ago .... it's a celtic cross I designed on my back.

My mom, however, got her first tattoo this year - Tinkerbell :)

Oh, now, see, I was applauding you while I was reading, that you had refrained from the kid's names thing...

My dad started tattooing a few years back, and he has put each of our names on his skin. I hate hate HATE it. Wish he'd talked to me about that ahead of time. And I LIKE tattooes! I have one!

And want more, but I still remember the gawdawful hideous searing pain (cat scratch HA HA HA HA) from 16 years ago, and I just can't do it.

Maybe next time I'm actively IN labor, if I could find a reputable person to do it then (doubtful), I'll have a local tattoo artist come by to do it... doubt that will happen, but right now it's the ONLY time I could think of the pain being less than anything else. However, DS was posterior (unknown to anyone, including the idiotic people I hired) and not ready to come out yet (DH had been a 44 week baby, but the people I hired didn't believe him or his mom, and didn't believe that post-dates run all over MY family, and tried to coax DS out at merely 42 weeks, and I had a very very VERY long labor before the people I hired messed it all up completely), and I plan to do just about everything I can to have a properly aligned baby next time, so it might not feel the same way, and this whole tattoo-during-labor thing (doubtful as it is that anyone would even agree to it) might fall flat. :)

But anyway, please think long and hard about how YOU might feel if someone put your name on their skin, and if you feel even the slight bit weird about it, just don't do it.

Other than that, I really like that swirly mickey head you showed on the first page!

It went really well! I didn't think it hurt that bad at all. The left ear area was the most sensitive but wasn't unbearable. So here is the final product...

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j96/haygan/DSCN0961.jpg

I'm going to have him take the bottom swirl around another 1/2 turn so there isn't as much space between them but other than that I am very please with the final result :) We decided against the initials as it was going to "junk" it up.

Sorry for the blurry picture but DH is terrible at taking pics!
