View Full Version : Update: It's Official--It's Broken

Well it was an eventful evening at the Meeks household. Our youngest (DD 10) was at taekwondo this evening and broke her big toe on her right foot. She also did major damage to the toe nail and gets to go see a specialist tomorrow! At taekwondo class they always end with a game of dodgeball. It is supposed to help them learn to think and move fast. Well my overly aggressive child tried to kick one of the balls that bounced toward her and instead of kicking the ball, she missed and kicked the floor. Ouch!

Of course, we had to rush to pick her up and learned that she is the third student to do the same thing in the past couple of years. The previous two had broken the toe. We watched as the toenail bled and bled and the foot began to swell before we decided that she needed to have an x-ray. Sure enough, it's broken. Unfortunately, the break is too low on her toe to be considered one of those leave it be--it will heal on its own sort of breaks. We get to go to a foot specialist tomorrow for a soft cast, splint, boot or whatever they do for a break like hers. I'll be anxious to hear what the doc has to say.

We finally have her doped up and sleeping. Man what a drama filled evening and no more taekwondo for a couple weeks!

Oh, man. That sucks. I guess the silver lining is that she's between soccer seasons, right?

Ouch! Your poor daughter (and you too!)

That reminds me of the time when my DD was in taekwondo. They were doing exercise drills at the beginning of the class and she decided to see if she could hold up all her weight using her index fingers....she thankfully ended up with just a badly sprained finger.

Good luck with the doctor!

Poor Adrianne! I hope it isn't painfull for very long. Breaking bones is no fun. :hugs:

The doctor feels like she will heal on her own. So, with meds and some good wraps, she will make it through. She has to wear her crocs for a few days and no activities like taekwondo and soccer for a couple weeks.

Good news is that she will heal fine. That's really all I wanted!

Ouch, ouch, ouch!!! :headache: So sorry to hear about your DD. That sounds like it smarts...really bad. :(

Broken toes are definitely not fun- I did that a few years ago...ouch!
But I am so glad that it will heal on it's own- I know you are relieved about that! I'm sure after some rest, she'll be up in no time!

Blessing and Miracle

After a couple of mysterious calls yesterday, one from the radiologist and another from the doctor, we found out this morning that the toe is actually broken in two places! So, we are going to get a soft cast and a boot today afterall. Poor thing--It's actually a good thing because I think she will be much more comfortable in something to mobilize her foot. Bad news is that the doctor wants to remove the toe nail as well--yuck!

Keep Miss Adrienne in your prayers. She'll heal, but it's hard to be in pain when you're 10! :(

Poor thing! That's no fun at all! The toenail thing isn't fun or pretty- BUT it will help it heal quicker. I didn't go that route but I would next time for sure! Big hugs to her!!
