For those of you women who wanted to help launch a new site and hopefully make some money off of it, we are in the final stages this weekend of figuring out what it is going to look like and how it is going to work.

Essentially, we will need about 5 women to start with (it will be a female focused site) who have ONE area that they are very interested in and would like to blog about each week. Ideally, I would like to start with sports, fashion, movie review, and book reviews. Other ideas include crafts, scrapbooking, homeschooling, cooking, fitness, etc.

Your "job" will be to write at least 3 blog posts a week on your topic. I will work with you to come up with advertisers that match your topic to include on your pages. I will also run a newsletter that will pick the top posts from the week and drive traffic to them. The better your articles and the more people you can attract to them, the more money that you will make off of the ads on your page.

So let's talk about who wants to participate, who has the time to commit to at least 3 short articles a week, and what areas you are strongest in.

Can I participate?,  I guess not!

But i do have to say I like the idea, and think its great!:sunshine:

Wow, what a great idea. My area of expertise revolves around travel planning, especially Disney. I also love to cook, I've worked in the Day Care industry the last 14 years and I swim in the shark-infested PTO waters (God knows there is plenty to write about from that one alone), Brownie Leader and Soccer Mom. Anything good there?

I'm definitely interested! I guess of the things you listed my "specialty" would be scrapbooking.

Hmm...this is very enticing! I would love to participate - trying to think of fun things. I could write about household budgeting and/or bargain shopping. I'm a bean counter/financial analyst by trade, so it's one of my favorite topics...:D Any room for an advice column - I have tons of solicited and unsolicited advice to offer...LOL! (can we say opinionated?!)

I would be very interested to blog about movie reviews. I am a huge movie buff and actually spend a lot of time reading movie reviews online.

I would love to participate...I guess my problem would be what am I an expert about???? Like a PP, I have been PTO president, secretary, VP, etc. Of course being on PTO you have lots of fundraisers, fair ideas, etc. I am part of our midget football concessions, fundraisers and budgeter.

I know - not as much as I use to, but could start learning more about - Christian music, books, etc.

However, I am sure there are quite a few people on this site who are VERY knowledgeable and talented in certain areas. I am just a mom....

So, if you need a mom, here I am!

Sounds fun! I am a California native and live by the bay area. I love football:D I rock at Disneyland travel. Budgeting and saving. I am a SAHM of three girls. I taught my dog sign language. I love movies and playing the Kevin Bacon game with DH.

Gosh, I think if I had a blog it would be boring!! Who wants to hear about what I like?:rotfl:

Tricia, I read nonstop so I'd be interested in doing the book blogs if you needed someone....As a single mom, I'm also always in need of money. (and now I have an additional one). Also teach high school English so I can do both new novels and even some classics...?

I would love to be included...what am I good at? Disney planning of course but then again I think most of us are! (DVC!! SAVING MONEY!!)

What about the view of a working mom? Let's run through my "resume" - been a working mom whose hubby worked nights...then a single working mom (could those nights have done it?!)...then a dating single working mom...then a remarried working mom and now finally a NEW baby/6yr working mom! All doing this while dealing with ex-inlaws, current inlaws, ex-hubby, new DH, family, friends, PTA, and DISNEY!

I am also a teacher of gifted children...so I have seen a lot!

ps YES I do still have time to write...between dance, religion and Brownies - that is 3 hours a week I will have to fill waiting around!

I'd be happy to blog, too, if any of the following would fit in with the topic. I enjoy cooking (I'm a 30 minute meal kind of gal), gardening, I'm a coupon queen, and by trade, I am a financial aid director so could blog about all kinds of things about applying for and receiving financial aid...

I'm not sure any of that is wildly interesting!

Please add me to the list of those interested. My area of interest would be sports. I would say for a "girl" as DH friends would say, I know my stuff. I love to watch professional football (but than again it is hard not to when you live in Steeler country), baseball, college basketball, and NASCAR. I am a big fan of college basketball. I have played softball for years and am now coaching my DDs team. In addition to softball, I have played basketball, volleyball, and golf.

In addition to sports, my other areas of interest would be financial planning, saving money, bargain shopping, couponing, and discount travel planning. Yes, I am a bean counter also. I am a SAHM of 2 adopted children. Oh, if you would want any articles about infertility, I have plenty of experience. :rotfl: Since my children were adopted from Russia, I am involved in a non-profit foundation to improve the living conditions of the children that will grow up in an orphanage. I am the secretary of the foundation and involved in many of the fund raising functions we have.

For those of you women who wanted to help launch a new site So you are talking about launching a totally new site and no longer looking for people to help with HMC? Are you shutting down HMC? I must have missed something and got lost somewhere between this thread and the For All Moms/HMC one.

Like I mentioned on the For All Moms thread, I could possibly be an affiliate for the site.

Oh yay... I'm interested!!! I wrote for the school newspaper, so I do have some experience writing articles on various topics. Besides Disney and finding good deals lol, I would have to say movies, scrapbooking, and fashion/makeup are my other obsessions. My DH would have to agree that all of the above cost him way too much money. ;)

Movies-- I got to the movies pretty often and am always up on the upcoming releases. I also own a ton of DVD's and know a lot of useless movie trivia. My mom thinks I would be awesome if I ever get on a game show!

Scrapbooking-- I have a whole room in my house devoted to it, so you could say I'm a fan lol. The ladies at Archiver's and Hobby Lobby know me by name and I like to keep up with the current trends. I have just as much fun (and sometimes more) buying scrapbook stuff as I do using it. I also frequent Two Peas and another scrap site quite often to get the good scoop on stuff. :D

Fashion/Beauty-- I am a born shopper -- Ask anyone who knows me. Purses, shoes, clothing, makeup.... all my weaknesses. I can be a bargain shopper, but know when to make a splurge worthwhile. BTW, I just got an adorable Michael Kors bag this weekend (highlight of my day!)

Another thing I know way too much about it celeb gossip, but I don't guess you need that. :rotfl: Oh yeah... another random thing I'm good at is coming up with gift ideas for people (weddings, birthday, theme presents, etc.).

Something I would also be interested in would be a general home decorating section, with special ideas for the seasons and holidays (fall, halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, winter, etc...). This could be crafty/shopping combined or alternating!!!!

Let me think and I'll come back and elaborate on the previous ones tomorrow! :)

Tricia, I would also love to do this. My idea for blogs would be childhood illnesses and different things kids can go through medically. I would also like to help people going through similiar situations I have gone through with this. I am not a dr but I have been through a lot with my kids especially ds. I also have worked in a medical office and my dh and dad are firefighters so I do have some medical background. There have been times were I felt like I knew more than the drs or nurses because of experience and research. For example, dd had appendicitis at age 4 and I fought and fought with the drs about it. They kept saying things like she was constipated and she had an enlarged liver and spleen from mono. I KNEW it was appendicitis and finally when it got to the point that her seatbelt was hurting, I called the nurse and insisted she be scheduled for an ultrasound. The nurse was very rude. She said that she doesn't have appendicitis. When I told her that is where the pain is and her symptoms where similiar when my nieces had it at 2 and 3, she snottily asked if I was medically trained and refused to even ask the dr. She said that my only option was to take her to urgent care. I told her I didn't like Kaiser's urgent care because we had never gotten good help there. I would always wind up taking the child back the next day and having their pediatrician find the cause. She rudely asked if I was bringing her to urgent care or not and I told her I would since I had no other option. We took her to urgent care that night. She was sent straight to the hospital for an ultrasound and was having an appendictomy at 2 the next morning. That nurse got in huge trouble and her dr apologized to me. Ds has had numerous medical problems including severe allergy to milk and breathing problems as a newborn, various stomach problems, and reflux. I would love to be able to help other moms through tough times with their children. I don't know if this is what you have in mind but I would love to find a way to do this.

This sounds like exactly what I'd be looking for. Hmm, what area would I be interested in? First choice would be homeschooling I think. I have been doing that for 5 years and will be homeschooling 3 kids for the first time this year. I have a degree in elementary education which might give me some credibility - but it really hasn't helped at all in actually homeschooling my kids. :rotfl:

I would also be interested in fashion. I lean toward the mom appropriate fashion on a budget. I don't currently spend much time researching fashion, but I would love too. :)

I am going on vacation this week - without kids!! I may not be checking in much, but it would just be this week. Let me know if I can be of help with this Tricia!

Tricia,
This is just an idea. Since there are so many talented women here, maybe we could do an article contest similar to the button contest. We could all vote for the article that has a topic that we are most interested in and the writing style that we would enjoy reading. Just an idea.

Tricia,

As you know I am also interested in this. I can really write about most things, although art and crafts and scrapbooking type things arent really my thing. I would be interested in reviewing both adult and childrens books. I have a membership to 5 different book clubs and have been expanding my horizons on books to read. I also could write about Mother's who juggle home and college. I could also probably write a book on SR and its advantages and disadvantages and how tos. Let me know if you need me.

I'd be interested in this - how long does the blogs need to be? I could give budgeting/financial advice, this is my forte.

I might be interested too. I am interested in and participate in scrapbooking and other craft projects, Christian fiction and non-fiction, Christian music, Other religious topics, money saving/couponing..., homeschooling, homeschooling while working, light cooking, Weight Watchers...

I soon will become knowledgable about transitioning from homeschooling to sending a child to school and transitioning from part time work back to full time (Although I am not happy about either of these opportunities.)

If there is anything you could use me for I'd be happy to give it a shot!

I like chattywomen, but to some chatty may be insulting??

SheNeedsToKnow sounds more formal and business like...chatty women more down to earth, every day....

I think SheNeedsToKnow.com sounds better. I do like ChattyWomen.com , but I think it might be misleading to the general Internet population. No offense, but ChattyWomen makes me think of:
those trashy commercials that give numbers where men can call to speak to women (call 1-800-xxxx to speak to chatty women- y'all know the ones I'm talking about) or a possible porn site
a group of old ladies sitting around a table gossipping
Perhaps something like thechattywoman.com would be less open to misinterpretation.

Just my .02 FWIW :)

We have a plan!!!

We're going to set up both sites. Both will be blog sites. The main difference will be that www.chattywomen.com will be less formal and will be just for fun. All of you will be invited to set up your own blog about any topic at all on there (or no topic!!). However, you won't be paid for it. You will, however, be able to put referral links on it, and we will have some advertising on it to pay for the site.

SheNeedsToKnow.com will then be the site that you can make money off of if you are selected to write for it. Each person selected will have only one topic that will be hers and hers alone. She will then make money off of all of the advertisements in her blog. We will send out newsletter to drive traffic.

We will host both of the sites, have the graphics designed, and optimize them so that you hopefully get a lot of search engine traffic. If you just want to do it for fun, you can be a chatty woman. If you want to be able to do it for profit, you'll have to graduate to sheneedstoknow.

Does that sound fair?
