Ok, all you cleaning experts. My vacuum died today. Very disappointing since it is a 400 Dyson, so needless to say, I will not buy another one of these. Any suggestions? Lots of dog hair in this house and I do vacuum frequently. I'm looking at the Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless. Thoughts?

I have an Oreck which is ok. My manager was looking at my wedding registery and made a comment about the Dyson not living up to their expectations for a $400 vacuum and mentioned he'd get a Hoover instead. He didn't say which one though. So you are probably on the right track.

I don't actually vacuum much. Lots of hardwood here and still concrete in the basement. So I'm pretty much no help. I do like not having a bag in my vacuum anymore though.

I wouldn't be any help either because we have a central vac but I do have an Oreck for those quicky jobs when I don't feel like hauling out the big guns! :D We have a Hoover Steam vac which we love and have had it for at least 10 years and going strong, if that's any help?

If anyone in the house has allergies, I can highly recommend the Electrolux Oxygen - although friends say the Dyson is awesome as well.
Since DD has allergies, we had to go with a unit that has a bag because the bagless actually kick a LOT of junk back into the air everytime it's turned on. According to the allergist, you can't see a lot of it, but a poof comes out every time, unless you have one of those Miele (sp?) or other uberexpensive units.
Pet hair is tough - maybe an online pet forum can help narrow down your choices.
