Hey guys. I am having the hardest time trying to come up with recipes using ground turkey or ground beef (I'm slowly adding this into my diet). I have a ton of chicken and pork recipes but I'm short in this area.

The crockpot cookbook only has recipes like meatloaf, meatballs, and chili. Not much of a variety. My rachel ray books have a million different ways to make a burger.

So please share your favorite recipes for ground beef/turkey. Bonus points if its WW friendly OR Crockpot friendly. :sunshine:

I have a really good one for Taco Soup. It's both WW and Crockpot friendly...

1# ground beef/turkey/(venison - what I use), browned, drained, and rinsed in hot water to remove rest of grease
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can rotel tomatoes
1 can kidney beans, drained & rinsed
1 can hot chili beans
1 can shoepeg corn
1 onion, chopped (optional)
1 pkg taco seasoning
1 pkg hidden valley ranch dressing mix
2 cups water/V8/tomato juice, more or less, to make it as brothy as you like.

If I remember correctly, using turkey/venison this is 2 points per cup. I usually whip it up on the stove, but since the ingredients just need to get hot, you could easily do it in the crock pot after browing the meat.

Enjoy! It's one of my favorites.

Here's another... fairly easy. Not sure of WW points but it's not too bad...

1# ground beef/turkey/venison
6 handfuls of whole wheat penne/ziti noodles
1 jar spaghetti sauce (tomato/basil is my favorite)
Oregano
Garlic
mozzarella cheese, cubed
onion/pepper/mushrooms (optional)
parmesan cheese, grated (optional)

Brown the meat, add a chopped onion and chopped bell pepper if you like, drain (and I always rinse in hot water to remove more fat)
Put meat back in skillet and add sauce and some oregano & garlic; mushrooms or whatever other veggies you want to hide in there if you like
Meanwhile, boil the pasta, drain
Cube the cheese

Then layer in a baking dish... sauce/meat, pasta, handful of cheese, repeat. Top with more grated/sliced mozzerella and grated parmesan if you want. Sprinkle with oregano and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted.

You're welcome.

White corn. Sorry -- I didn't know this either, it's the way the recipe was written and I should have changed it :)

Thanks for bumping this up. I completely forgot about asking this and that baked ziti sounds great. I think I'll pick up some ground beef/turkey/chicken/something this weekend and make it. It warmed up too much to make soup :(

Shelley I remembered seeing this and tried it over the weekend. I made it for my kids and their friends and it was a huge hit! I used 2 rolls of the Butterball Turkey Breast meat and an extra can of the hot chili beans to stretch it. The only thing I did different was that I added some fresh garlic and some mexcian seasonings when I browned the meat to take away some of the 'turkey meat' flavor. Then we ate it with crushed light white corn tortilla chips. It was very very good! Thanks for the recipe it's a keeper!!

My roommate in college use to always make this for us with ground turkey....

She would cook it in the frying pan and add some salsa and a little mexican seasoning......then she would use lowfat corn tortilla to line a platter, sprinkle on some lowfat cheese (not much) then put the ground turkey mixture on top...then a tiny bit more of lowfat cheese.

We really enjoyed it and I know she started this one when she did WW (but going back to 1992)......

salsa is low (what 1 to 2 points) and then just figure cheese

Give it a try.....great for a change of pace from other meats.

Here's a quick and easy favorite at our house:

Sloppy Joes

1 package ground turkey
1 onion chopped
2 bell peppers chopped (or bag from Trader Joe's of mixed peppers)

Brown together and cook until vegies are soft.
Add your favorite barbecue sauce - as much or as little as you like. Simmer about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more sauce if needed.
Serve in buns.

Low in points, lots of vegies, lots of flavor.

I actually made this two weeks ago. I used my onion, celery, and bell pepper mix and it was really really good.
