I moved my family room furniture around yesterday to get ready for my Christmas tree! I LOVE this time of year. DH is not happy that I am putting it up so early. BUT...in my defense, we will be gone from Dec. 19 - Dec. 30. We will be heading to my Mom's for that week. SOOO, I like to enjoy my decorations! Plus, it takes SOOO long to put everything up (however, the last few years I have ONLY put up the tree and fireplace decorations), that I want to make it worth while.

So....anyone ELSE getting ready to haul your stuff out of the basement or attic or wherever you store it?

Angela, you crack me up! I'm glad you enjoy it all!! We were going to put the tree up after Thanksgiving, but now I don't think we will this year. It doesn't make for a festive house, but it will make for an easier time to put things away!! Cuz they will already be put away! Ha!!

Have fun!

We are going to put ours up on December 1st. I want to enjoy the rest of fall and Thanksgiving first :)

The problem in our house is always taking them down!!! My DH and boys like to keep the tree up as long as possible!! We usually take it down during the last week of January! :rotfl:

Well most of my little christmas figurines never got put up last year, as well as the little starbucks bears, and the bright red table cloth so I'm about 50% decorated right now :rotfl: I just need to put up the tree and stockings to be complete. I figure I'll do that the weekend after turkey day.

Ours will go up the day after Thanksgiving and come down the week after Christmas. My DH has been a busy beaver in our garage for the last five days...designing and building his latest and greatest outdoor display. His nickname is Clarke W. Griswold...need I say more?! :rotfl: So yes...Christmas decorations are already on our mind!!

I think mine are going up this weekend. No one will be at my apartment before Thanksgiving anyways and I've been having a rough time lately, so maybe the decorations will cheer me up ....

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one excited about Christmas! It's definitely my favorite time of the year. I love Christmas and all that it brings!

:christmas: :christmas: :christmas: :christmas:

Traditionally, we put up the decorations Thanksgiving weekend. However, I was thinking about the first of Thanksgiving week.

Mine are staying in the attic this year! I really don't care for the holidays, never have. I put up the tree and decorations every year that my son was home but now that he has moved on with his own life...figure, we can go to HIS house with HIS decorations. Time for the younger generation to take on the tasks of cooking, cleaning and decorating!! Yes, I guess you could call me a grinch! :rotfl:

I have started to ask my husband to bring the Christmas stuff down from the attic, knowing it will not happen for about 2 more weeks. :) But I have all my fall stuff up so I am happy for now. I so love this season. I have listened to Christmas music already though. I will put the stuff up the day after Thanksgiving and I always take Christmas down the 26 or 27. I like to move on to the next thing. :)

In your defense, with a new puppy, a Christmas tree might not be such a good idea. :rotfl:

I am ready to start decorating too. But we have family coming in, so we won't do anything until leave. Plus we do a fresh cut tree and I like to wait for that. Though I have started to teach Katie some Christmas songs.

Well, I tried to get DH to bring the Christmas decorations down from the attic when he put the Halloween ones away a few weeks ago. He was having none of that.:cooldance: So, I will probably wait till the Black Friday to start.

No tree for us though.:( My youngest cat loves to climb into the tree. It was really cute the first year, when she was a 2 lb kitten. Not so cute the second year, when she was a 14 lb behemoth. She knocked the tree over, needles and water everywhere. Oh well. So, now we have to keep all the decorations out of her reach. She also has a tendency to eat ribbons. She spent a night at the vet to remove the ribbon she ingested the first year we had her. As you can tell, she is our problem child. :p

Everyone, please post pictures of your holiday decorations. I would love to see them.

my furball is going to be interesting this year too ... my kitten was only about a month and a half old at Christmas last year and didn't attempt to climb the tree ... but she did like to "taste" the cords ... this year, she's a full grown ball of energy, so we'll see how she does. She's not allowed in the living room of my apt, where the tree will be, unsupervised, so hopefully she does ok! *fingers crossed*

I do know that I have to have the non-breakables towards the bottom, she loves batting at ornaments ....

Wilson - I have also been listening to my Point of Grace Christmas CD! By the way, if ANY of you are...religious...for lack of better words, you need to get the Christmas Story Point of Grace CD. It is WONDERFUL!

I like my tree up BEFORE Thanksgiving because we are out of town Thanksgiving week. I like to get back from THAT holiday and move on to Christmas!

I like to take the tree down the SECOND we get home from the Christmas holidays though. As much as I love Christmas, when it is over, I want it to be over.

DH wants to do lights on the house this year. I have banned him from doing them the last couple of years. 3 years ago the outside Christmas lights were still up for Easter.....yeah....he got grounded from them for a few years. A little embarassing....The manger and baby Jesus was STILL in the yard too....

Happy decorating - or not decorating - all!

Catharine - I am glad to hear you are 1/2 way decorated! LOL

We're having lights put up outside this week. It will be the first time we've ever done that so should be interesting. At least it includes them taking the lights down in early January so we don't have to worry about that part!

Not sure when we'll get the decorations down yet. I have bought most of the presents and started wrapping some of them. But few more things to get done!

I am cleaning house, right now, when not shopping ebay for Christmas. Some stuff will be up by tonight. I need the boxes to pack away Halloween. I used the Halloween boxes to clear out the regular stuff. But, I always put stuff up early, I like my stuff up by end of Thanksgiving wkend, or at least a large portion of it. This year, I am either working or away from home, so I need an early start. December ends up being so busy with school, scouts and church that I like my stuff done early. Now, as far as trees and cats, look at this boy.:rotfl: He thinks he is a bird.:rotfl:

PS I can't figure out how to make him small, in the picture, or cat person (he is way bigger than my shi-tzu) but his pic is no bigger than Bryan's signature.:rotfl:

DD12 knocked ours down when she was 18 months. I was stressed out, we didn't have a tree that year.

I don't know what I did, but my picture is smaller than when I previewed the picture. Good, because it was almost enormous.

My decorations don't go up until December 4 because I have to celebrate my birthday first! It was a rule in our house growing up and it holds true to this day!

aww that makes me miss my kitty. He was never a tree climber but boy did he like those low hanging ornaments and my parents nativity set. We didn't mind the odd wiseman or goat that would be batted around until we caught him but we were pretty upset with him the day we found him playing with the baby jesus from the manger set.

My lights are on the tree - no decorations yet. The kids like to help with that and they are in school.

My stockings are hanging over the chimney with care - along with some poinsettia decorations.

My TV now has pretty Christmas greenery on top.

Now to climb back up in to the attic and retrieve some other decorations. I am debating on whether I should put up another tree for the kids to decorate so that I can have my "nice" tree. I don't know. Seems like a lot of work!

We had the lights put up this week. I'm going to have DH get the stuff out of the attic probably tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm just really thinking this little one is close to making a debut and I would like to get the decorations out of the way. Otherwise, might be hard to do after having a c-section! And after seeing the reaction DS had to the lights on the house, I would be highly disappointed to not be able to decorate well!!

Have fun decorating everyone- and for those not decorating... you can enjoy not having to take it all down later!!

My 1st DS was due on Nov. 18. We put ALL the decorations up the first week of November. I was 3 cm. dilated at 38 weeks and they said that I would go early. Well....Nov. 18 came and went. So did Thanksgiving! He was born on Dec. 1. The little stinker had to be induced! It was VERY nice to have all the decorations up though by the time I got home from the hospital. That was truly a special Christmas as I am sure yours will be too!

I hope you are feeling well! Keep us posted on when your baby comes! I keep thinking of you! Crazy as it is, I loved the labor part of my pregnancy - HATED the pain, but I knew that my I would be able to hold my little one soon! I pray your C-section goes smoothly and you recover well!

Happy decorating!

Angela - I would be right with ya, but I have to wait until after Thanksgiving. Growing up, my parents did the house up from top to bottom in Christmas decorations. My dad is a pastor so we had Christmas decorations as gifts like crazy so it was easy for them to do!!! I never remember us having less than 3 christmas trees and up to 6 at one time in our house. However, they always had a very strict rule that the decs didn't come out until Black Friday no matter what. They want to enjoy Thanksgiving with their Thanksgiving decorations first...

There is a very good chance that my family will be at my house this year for Thanksgiving since Friday we are probably going to have to travel to IL for my brother's HS football team (he's a coach) to play in the State Finals (Go Mt. Carmel, IL Golden Aces!!!!). It's 2 hours closer from my house so the rents are probably coming here this year.

So, I resist the temptation to go ahead and decorate with our 6 trees (2 are just little bitty things in the girls' rooms but still) until after Thanksgiving so I don't get made fun of mercilessly over Thanksgiving....but I would start today otherwise!!!! :) I guess I inherited the whole decorating thing, huh?

No matter what your decorating preference - I hope everyone here has a very peaceful and joyous holiday season...

Rachel

I have had a few "rolling of the eyes" about setting up my Christmas stuff. But hey, it is SOOO much work to put up, so I might as well enjoy it for as long as I can!

The more I think about it, I think I might get down that other tree and set it up! I will wait until the kids get home and they can help me do it. It is a smaller tree - about 5 foot - so it shouldn't take THAT long to decorate. And this way I can have a "pretty" tree AND a family tree!

My birthday is December 17th and my Mom always tried to keep things as separate as she could- which meant she didn't put up the decorations until the 18th. I never even really got it until I was older! I think that continued until I left for college. At least now she can decorate when she wants :rotfl: ! But it was very sweet of her for doing that- sometimes as a kid it's hard to have a birthday so close to Christmas. I remember kids couldn't come to parties b/c of vacation or family stuff and it was usually "here's your birthday/Christmas present". And of course the majority of the birthday presents were wrapped in Christmas paper! lol

So- it does feel a little strange to me to decorate this early, BUT I think it's the only way to do it this year at least! We're also in a new house this year so I think I'm going to have to do some shopping this weekend!!:)

My due date is Dec. 15th, but since I'm having a repeat c/section, it would be scheduled either Dec 5th or possibly Nov 28th. We're supposed to schedule it next week. DS was 2 months early so this is all a new experience for me at this point. With him my water broke and I dilated VERY fast without much pain. Had to have an emergency c-section b/c he was breach and how fast it was going. So, I never experienced the contractions etc. with him. Right now I'm having them about 20-25 minutes apart.... I'm all packed and ready for whenever! lol I'll keep you guys posted on the arrival!!

At least when the baby comes, my credit card will get some relief... that darn online shopping! :rotfl:

How exciting all around!!! Please keep us posted on the baby!!! Isn't shopping for decorations for a new house exciting!! We have that situation this year as well!

SR is good for my wallet in most cases, but I just haven't been able to avoid a few things the last couple of days!!

Again, congrats and best wishes on a very happy holiday season with the new one!!!

Yes, I can totally relate. My birthday is December 19th and my Mom tried to make it a special day for me. But, I agree that others would hand me my birthday present and it was wrapped in Christmas paper. :rotfl: Everyone in my family has a December birthday and I married into a family where more than half of my in-laws have a December birthday. My MIL came up with a great idea - we celebrate our December birthdays with just one large cake for everyone and than we have another party in June/July - no one has a birthday during those months in our family.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....
