Since we don't have a work issues section I thought I'd just throw this in here since I just needed to let this out. Its not really the end of the world at all but I have anxiety issues and this is my first real job out there so I'm still learning how to work in corporate america.

So basically I am in public accounting (not a glamourous job by any means). We work on teams and this is the normal food chain:
Parner
Senior Manager
Manager
Senior
Experienced Associate
New Associate

I am at the Exp Assoc level, we do not have a Manager right now (haven't had one for over a year and supposively we are getting one Dec 1 but I hold my breath on that one), and my senior just put in her 2 weeks notice.

So as you can guess I'm a tad freaked out because now I am the most senior person on the team and will be trying to answer to the Sr. Manager, Partner, and client as well as deal with new associates. Oh and busy season is just a month and a half away. So while I know everything will be ok and I'll do fine its just the shock factor that is getting me today. I just need another year and a half and then I can run as well but that time is going to pass very slowly.

Thank you for listening. I appreciate it. Back to our regularly scheduled crazy credit increase fun. :sunshine:

Wow! But that will certainly have to look good any any future resumes, right?

It's been 16 years since I've been in the corporate world, but I do remember so I know how you are feeling. Yay!! and Oh crud!!! all mixed up into one emotion!

As you said, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Take one day at a time, breath in, breathe out, come to SR to vent!

Thanks yall. This is pretty much how I feel about it. I was kinda hoping my senior would stick around until I finished this year because she is just so good and smart and I would feel ready next year. I just don't exactly feel ready right now but I'll do ok I think. Ugh its just one of those jobs of a lifetime that I would leave for so I can't blame her. I just hope that with 2 more busy season's I'll be the same way and can find my dream job and bolt :)

Good news is that at lunch I learned that we will definetly be getting a Manager to help out which will be good because I kinda need a "buffer" and they may or may not get another senior out here for busy season but if they did it would not affect my promotion next year to senior. :sunshine: But yeah this year will be more difficult and sadly I'll be working more hours than I'm use to now :(

What an adventure for you! This will be a great opportunity to show what you got! Maybe it will allow you to move up the ladder quicker - if that is what you want! But I do hope that you do not stress too much and lose sleep over it. Just take each day at a time. I am glad you will have a manager to help!

Good luck!

Well, just live by my motto, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. Always works.

Ugh it seems that when it rains it pours. I just finished talking with my mom. Apparently my dad is being reassigned to Europe on us. Talk about horrible timing. I haven't talked to my dad but apparently he and my mom aren't taking this too well. Its suppose to be a 4-6 month-ish assignment but that could turn out to be much longer and they have no idea where he might get sent after that. He has a year and a half until he reaches early retirement so it is just a matter of getting through it so he can retire.

It just sucks because my family is 4 hours away so I can't exactly run home in case something happens and my mom/brother needs me especially in busy season. And my mom can't just pack up and go with him because my brother has 1 semester left to graduate from Community College so we can't uproot him right now (and there is another factor I don't really talk about with him that worries all of us). I just want to wake up and find out this was all just a bad dream today or that its already Friday and Mike is coming home. :(

I don't have any good advice on this new twist, family issues so hard to deal with I know, so much more emotional than things at work. Just wanted to give you some :wizard: for things to work out ok. Friday will be here soon.

Thanks for the pixie dust. I just wish I knew more than what I do which isn't much and its just so stressful and upsetting for all of us. At least I am heading home next week and can find out more and we can all come up with a plan on how we are going to deal. :(

Oh Catherine! I'm sorry everything is happening at once. It's clear you & your family are very close (albeit it not physically) so I'm very sorry you have to deal with work stuff on top of your family stuff! It's never easy to have a work life balance...especially in public accounting (hence my venture in the private sector!!:p ). My hope for you is that you are able to leave work at work & not have to worry about it when you leave so you can be there for your mom & brother while you're dad is gone!

MAYBE...towards the end of your dad's stay you can all take a family vacation to celebrate?!

We're here for you whenever you need us!! :hugs:
Jen

Seems like when it rains it pours. So sorry about all the "yuck" going on for you right now. Come vent anytime.

And like Jen said, I hope you are able to leave work AT work. A hard thing to do, I know. Keep us posted.

Hope you are feeling better. :sunshine:

Thanks yall! I just wanted to give an update. I had a chat at work with the Senior Manager who understands I don't know everything that the girl leaving knows so he will be there to help me along the way which was reassuring and everything will work itself out at work and he believes I'm fully capable of picking up the void. I felt bad because I started bawling when I went to talk to him because it was the day after I found out about my dad's situation and it was so up in the air so I had to explain all that out as well. Luckily my manager is supportive so he said if ever I needed to run home (4 hours away) we'd work it out.

My mom also called a few minutes ago and they finally found out my dad's assignment and that it will be for approximately 6 months, higher pay, and no taxes since it will be out of the country (they were afraid of a pay cut or something similar that would affect his pension), he will get an apartment, all meals paid for, and supposively the busy times will only be 10-12 hour days. So he hasn't accepted the new assignment but I think he will. It will be in North England (basically at the north sea) - 3 or 4 hours from London, 1 hour from Manchester, 1 hr from Liverpool. He gets 2k a month in travel allowances which will cover my family visiting him off and on. My mom is planning for her and my brother to go for 2 weeks in June and then 2 in July. I am going to try and weasel a trip for Mike and I at some point. The other thing that I didn't quite get all the details on is that if everything goes as planned with the project and it goes well Houston might be a possibility for when he returns to the states!

So we are all doing much better with all the news.
