View Full Version : Christmas Pickle?
Does anybody else out there hang a pickle on their tree? We're putting one up for the first time, and I was wondering how you handled who saw it first, or if you had an explanation you liked?

It's a German tradition-the child who finds the pickle gets an extra present. I'm *thinking* I'll have people write their answers on paper and pick one from the correct one (the prize is a thing of the Merci chocolates).

I have had one for years, but before the kids we never really 'did' the extra....now we give a sweet treat......I don't have the heart to give a bigger gift to one of my girls.......the sweet treat is a good compromise for us

German here! We do the pickle every year. In our family there is a "pickle" gift. Just a gift that the whole family can enjoy. (This years it's Pirates AWE, last year it was a video game.)
On the gift tag we write To: Pickle, From: Pickle.:rotfl:
So DH and I put the pickle ornament on the tree Christmas Eve and the first child to find the pickle opens the first present (the pickle gift):present:
We have the pickle up. Since people will be arriving at different times, I made up little slips of paper with an explanation and a space to write where the pickle is. From the right answers I'm going to draw the winner. :)

We have the pickle but do not give a gift. We also have a golden spider which has a nice story behind it.

We have two pickles! One teeny tiny one for adults to find, one bigger one for Caroline to find. We don't give a gift though, it's the satisfaction of knowing. :)

We don't have a pickle, but I had given one to someone this year, so maybe their family is having a pickle tradition.
This year, I had gotten both of my kids Disney ornaments that are round bulbs that open up. My daughter has a Mickey one, and my son has a Stitch. I had put $5.00 each in them.
