I know what's going on in the world, but at the moment I'm mentally gathering resources for my "long weekend" in the fall at WDW. Haven't been since 2016!
we postponed our April trip to the Fall. We are booked at Pop Century. :cooldance:
We are DVC staying at BCV and had a May 3-15 trip planned using all banked points, cancelled that and reallocated those points to our already booked Oct/Nov. trip, hopefully we will be able to go at that time? We are in the high risk category and had no choice but to cancel.
Yes, have to stay safe so we can go back! It really is a disappointment but now I get to plan another vacation all over again, dinning reservations need to be made AGAIN next month, at least I get to plan another trip, lots of people had to cancel their once in a life time trip, imagine that....so sad.
So we are booked starting May 24 and I am so on the fence about what to do! Part of me thinks that things will probably be lifted by that time because it is still pretty far away. But then part of me wonders if we should go ahead and cancel and rebook for the summer. We already have a trip booked for October and one for Christmas....so this one would HAVE to be before the kids start school in August. We actually just bought annual passes and were going to activate them in May.
Tomorrow is our fast pass day and we are going to go ahead and make them for May just in case we still end up getting to go. So much up in the air!!!
We will definitely be there for the girls' fall break in October. It will be the last year that they have fall break together so it may be our last family MNSSHP. :( We are going to have to really up our costume game for it!!
Yikes! That's a hard one. And holy heck...your guys' last family MNSSHP? Whoa.
I'm (hopefully) going to be there 10/1--trying to decide if I should do MK or Epcot on their birthdays. From there: trying to decide between Crystal Palace, Garden Grille, or Akershus for breakfast that day, or doing Topolino's Terrace another day. Other than that, my only other must-do ADR is Boma, tho I may make a few other ones in case they offer free dining for my dates.
Happy ADR day to me, happy ADR day to me, Happy ADR day dear Heather, happy ADR day to me. I booked ADR's as if Free Dining might take place during my trip. October 1: Be Our Guest (new!) before MK opens. October 2: Oga's Cantina lunch (new!) and Boma dinner. October 3: Topolino's Terrace breakfast (new!). If no Free Dining, then I'll probably just trim it down to Topolino's Terrace and Boma. (Heather goes to a character meal and Boma. Groundbreaking).
I also learned that SIL (our MDE's are linked from our last trip) has a trip planned for early May she hasn't mentioned.
You do realize that Oga's Cantina doesn't really have "lunch", it's just two snack's to choose from, it's a bar that you have to stand at high tables with other people, not much seating. We had a reservation on our last trip but ended up canceling it, didn't seem to interest either one of us after doing more research. Neither one of us likes sweet type drinks (and most of them are) and at the time I had foot problems so needed to have a seat which wasn't guaranteed. We like Boma, good choice. Didn't care for Be Our Guest, we had a few problems with our dinner that the manager ended up comping part of it but the inside of the castle is great and meeting the beast, sadly it was a one and done for us but glad we tried it. Haven't tried Topolino's but heard it was a great character breakfast, I would love to try dinner there at some point. So many changes from when you went to Disney last, you will be amazed. Your SIL will be canceling that trip, no chance Disney will be open. ;)
We were suppose to fly out April 25-May 2. Grand Gathering all 14 of us. All my kids are married now and I have 4 grandchildren.
I could just cry. I think we are going to try for the same time next year and hopefully miss the 50th Celebration before it all starts.
This kills me to say this, but my husband works for a company that does gas lines, underground utility work, bridges, etc. He deals with a lot of government contacts and they were just told, that many non essential places will not get open until a vaccine
is in place, which could be close to another 15 months. He told me to go ahead and plan, but he does not foresee us going next year either. Right now I am at the point that I just trust in God to get us through this storm. I am sorry if anyone is not religious, I do not mean to start anything, but we all need to start praying for this epidemic to end. I keep telling myself, Disney will always be there, you can always plan another time.
This makes me so sad!! I remember when we planned our big trip for Kevin's family with his parents, all their boys, and all of their grandkids. I think we planned for over a year just to be able to get everyone together? I know how much you must have been looking forward to it. :(
Is anyone watching the livestreams of AP preview day? I am so jealous!
I am shocked at how few people are at AK today, especially because the preview booked up. I wonder what it will be like once it opens to everyone? I thought today was supposed to be a trial run of capacity before this weekend but surely it won't stay that low for long.
Attendance is still very low in the parks. But with 25% capacity, it has to be that way. I know a few people down there and they said the openings feel a little crowded but once the crowds disperse it is a walk on with almost every ride. At Hollywood Studios, the crazy Falcon Run is still ran with signing up when you enter the park, but you are pretty much guaranteed a time slot. I would love to be there With those low crowds.
This is bratty and champagne problems AF, but I don't know what to do about my September/October trip. I'm out in the service industry in MA all week. I have faith in WDW's cleaning/mask enforcement. To be honest, I'm more pressed that I'll have to quarantine post-WDW than anything.
Thoughts?
We are keeping our reservation for now for the end of October, waiting to see what happens. I also trust Disney and people are saying they feel safer at Disney than in their home grocery store. We also have to quarantine when we get back here in CT but not worried about that at all as we are retired. Disney also doesn't want the tri-states entering FL but that is not being enforced and DeSantis hopefully will reverse that on Sept 5th? 2 wk quarantine is nothing to us because we stayed home 3+ months in the beginning. People who have a job to go back to would have more of a problem justifying the trip and to me it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle of a quarantine and then having to get tested before being allowed back to the job. We also have to fill out paperwork online and pretty sure MA has to too before re-entering our states or we will get fined. You have to do what your gut tells you to do, Disney isn't going anywhere and will be there when this virus is under control.
moved our October trip (originally was April) to April 2021; hoping we will be able to go. We do have park hoppers.
Soooooo......now that we are back, I feel comfortable talking about the trip we just took.
We were at Boardwalk for 8 days. Flew on Southwest (no middle seats plus a mask mandate). Rented a car. Used annual passes to go to every park, some 2 or 3 times.
The masks were NOT a huge deal except that it was so stinking hot!!! It was around 95 most of the time, with a "real feel" of about 110. We just aren't used to that. So combining that with the masks was very tiring and we had to drink a LOT of water. But it really wasn't a terrible thing to have to take a nap every afternoon.
Safety procedures were incredible. The worst mask offenders were people with their noses sticking out and a handful of kids. But they were few and far between and easy to avoid. The worst place by far was the Tiki Room because for some reason lots of people brought in food and were taking off their masks to eat. But be were also pretty spread out.
Every cast member we talked to was so happy to be back. One of them in the gift shop told us that they finally let CMs visit a park each the other day. She chose EPCOT and cried while she was there because she was so happy to be "feeling" Disney again. I know there are a lot of stories about CMs being afraid to go back to work but the ones we talked to kept thanking us for coming back and saying they were grateful their jobs were called back up in the first round.
LOOOOOTS of hand sanitizer. Before and after every ride. Pretty much at the door of every restaurant and shop.
So from a safety perspective, I was truly happy. And this is coming from someone who has only left the house maybe 10 times since March? And most of those were for curbside pickup!
The down side is that there is a lot less food and entertainment. Even when we got to eat at our favorite restaurants, a lot of our favorite foods were missing. But we just said "would we rather be here and have a limited menu than not be here at all? yep!!" So we rolled with it.
Disney Springs was a hot mess. People there are NOT being as safe and it is very crowded. Everyone warned me but we went anyway because we needed to find somewhere to eat dinner and really wanted to go to Goofys. We stayed about as long as it took to eat dinner and go to Goofys. lol
It really seemed like the people who were in the parks (or at least 90%+ of them) were happy enough to be there that they didn't want to break the rules.
Oh! Ride times. We didn't wait for more than 30 minutes for anything. And a lot of things were walk on. Some of it was just paying attention to the Disney blogs in advance to see when the best times to go were. Some of it was the reduced crowds. The parks did often look really busy and there was a steady stream of riders on every ride. But the queues were not overflowing and without fastpass the regular queue line moves so fast. Expect down times every couple of hours of about 10 minutes for cleaning. That caused our longest waits.
We were going back in October but Jillian no longer has a fall break so we just cancelled. But we are headed back in November and December as long as everything goes well!
Love hearing your report! (I wimped out and am waiting to decide).
