    Default DVC points question

I need some expert assistance when it comes to DVC points.

We have the opportunity to purchase 100 points with an April use year at BWV. Just one question. We will get 100 points from the 2008 allocation which [according to the contract] must be used by 4/1/10, the 100 2009 points are banked.

My question is --- is there any way to carry forward the 2008 points? We are planning to visit in September/October, 2009.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

Sounds to me like the 2008 points where already banked and therefore you would definitely have to be used by 4/1/2010 or you will lose them. The 2009 banked points you will be able to use for your vacation and you will get another 100 points on 4/1/2010 to use. You can use 3 years worth of points....previous years banked, current year and borrow following year points.

    Thanks, Pam, for your response.

I was afraid that would be the response. I've been told we can rent them out, but I'm sure the "rental" market is probably overburdened. Besides, I wouldn't even have a clue on how to begin that process.

You could look into Mouseowners.com they have a rental board (as does the DIS, but that site is way too big now!)

Call MS and see what's available for say Feb. school vacation week (here in MA it's the week of the 21st)

Maybe you could post "Points Available to Rent Exp. 3/30/10" Most renters there get 8.00 to 12.00 a point depending on which resort they are renting or how "distressed" the points are.

With the big storm that just hit the East coast the last two days, I'm sure you could find someone to rent your points to go South!! I've rented many times and I always Use a contract and have them pay you by Postal Money Order or Paypal(with fees).

    Good luck to you!

I've only rented to friends, maybe you could go that route?

Thanks Pooh. I'll do that. One challenge is the contract doesn't close until 2/10/2010! That is a very small window.

Wish I was going then. I would rent from ya.

I have rented points 2 times and they have both gone very well. If you find the right person I think you would be very happy. With that small of a window you would proably get paid all up front so it is more risky on the renters end then yours.

Good luck. We have discussed the thought of buying DVC a lot. I am always jealous of those that finally do.
