General question here....
How soon can non DVC members, Disney Visa etc book in advance? Can I book for next year at this time? What I really want to know is, what are the advantages or disadvantages to booking a year in advance. If there is good deal can someone like me eventually be eligable for it?
Yes I'm Disney Dumb, last year was our first time and we stayed OP.

I just went through a big thread at disboards and Mary at Mousesavers posted that this is the biggest deal she remembers. Rumor is it's for early January through a few days in June.

It does say something about traveling in early 2009 or the beginning of 2009. It isn't likely to be extended to this time next year but I would book your vacation and then as soon as something comes out (there is always something) you can apply the codes.

I don't to break any rules regarding surveys so I can't say what I read on OTX...
BUT, I can say that I'm ready to go at 5 to see if this promotion is what I expected. A Disney promotion after school lets out! Unbelievable. We will definitely be booking for June, 2009 (if not the week after Easter). We won't be able to get the $200 gift card but I think it's important to stay on property if going during times when it's busy to take advantage of EMH.
I believe there will be another round of stimulus payments, we usually get a tax refund (even though we try NOT to!) and are awaiting a rebate for our new windows, so I have already justified it to DH!
Now, I can dilly dally the day away trying to choose a resort in each category so I am ready to go!

It's up...stay for 7, pay for 4
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/offerDetail?id=FY09Q2ValueOfferPage
From Mousesavers:
Free Nights Package Offer for January-June 2009
Disney is offering a fantastic "free nights" vacation package offer. This is probably the best offer I've seen since 2003. It is valid for stays January 4 through June 27, 2009 (with April 5-18 blacked out).
Here are the details:
Buy a 4-night/4 day vacation package, get a 7-night/7-day package. That's 3 FREE hotel nights and 3 extra days on your theme park admission tickets!
Travel between January 4 and March 29 and you will also get a $200 Disney Gift Card, redeemable for dining, souvenirs and more at Walt Disney World! (Travel after March 29 does not include the Gift Card.)
So how much will this save you? Here are three examples (amounts approximate):
Family of 4 (2 Adults, 1 Junior age 10-17, 1 Child age 3-9), staying at a Value resort, Standard room, January 8-15 (7 nights): $276.75 savings on hotel room + $38.33 savings on tickets + $200 gift card = $515.08 total savings.
Family of 4 (2 Adults, 1 Junior age 10-17, 1 Child age 3-9), staying at a Moderate resort, Standard room, January 8-15 (7 nights): $502.88 savings on hotel room + $38.33 savings on tickets + $200 gift card = $741.21 total savings.
Family of 4 (2 Adults, 1 Junior age 10-17, 1 Child age 3-9), staying at Beach Club resort, Water View room, January 8-15 (7 nights): $1383.75 savings on hotel room + $38.33 savings on tickets + $200 gift card = $1622.08 total savings.
As you can see, the primary savings are on the hotel room portion, so the higher category hotels offer the most total savings. The hotel discount works out to 43% off the room rate when you book 4 nights and get 7 for the same price.
You must buy a package that includes at least 4 nights' accommodations at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel plus minimum 4-day Magic Your Way Base Tickets to qualify for the FREE nights and the extra days on your tickets.
You can stay longer than 7 nights (up to 10 nights) with this package, but there is a maximum of 3 free nights and 3 extra days per ticket, per stay. You can stay less than 7 nights, but you still must purchase 4 nights, so you'll end up with less than 3 free nights/extra days.
You can add the Quick Service Dining Plan, the regular Dining Plan, or the Deluxe Dining Plan, but you will pay full price for your dining plan (no free days of dining). This offer cannot be applied to the Premium or Platinum packages or to "split stays" (for example, 4 nights at one hotel, 3 nights at another).
Don't forget, if you happen to celebrate your birthday during your 2009 Walt Disney World vacation, you can receive a special birthday treat, such as a "fun card" in an amount equal to the price of a 1-Day/1-Park Base Ticket ($75 for an adult, $63 for a child) you can use toward merchandise or recreation. You can also choose from other options. (The birthday treat is available ONLY on your actual birthday. This is a 2009 Disney Parks promotion available to anyone. It does not require purchase of a vacation package.)
You must book this special package by 12/20/08.
Thanks to Small World Vacations for info. Small World Vacations agents will be booking this package for their clients tonight until the Disney Reservations Center closes at 8:00 pm!
To book the Free Nights Package Offer, please contact Small World Vacations and request the specific offer code below. No need to wait until tomorrow - Small World Vacations agents can book this package for you until 8:00 pm Eastern time tonight!
RWZ for package with 7 nights/7 days for price of 4 nights/4 days (+ $200 Gift Card if traveling 1/4/08-3/29/08)
WTY for same package with Quick Service Dining Plan
RXA for same package with regular Dining Plan
MPL for same package with Deluxe Dining Plan

11-06-2008, 07:26 PM
My math may be wrong but you could book a package in a value for 7 nights to get the tickets and the 200 gift card would pay for your outlay on the room. I forsee many DVCers booking a room without intending to stay in it.

Anyone able to use this??? I only have one trip planned for 2009 and it is for 4 days only. Really does me a lot of good. Also, I have NEVER booked a package, only room only. Seems that Disney's bookings for next year must be way down for them to go on and offer a discount for the first 6 months of the year!

11-06-2008, 08:59 PM
Not sure if I'm going to use it or not...We already have our tickets and I was hoping to book the package and only buy a 1 day ticket. But, with this, we have to buy the 4 day ticket which seems kind of silly to me when we already have the tickets and enough Priority Club points for a week's free stay in the new Holiday Inn in Downtown Disney. The only reason I'd book it is if my sister and her family decide to go.
When I priced it out, this wouldn't be any better a deal than having free dining in September. We just can't go during September with the kids getting older and missing school right at the beginning of the year.

They are definitely pushing with this one because they didn't want to let me get the discount because I had already booked a package and they tried telling me the packages were all taken, but the supervisor was able to find me a room after I asked why it there were no more rooms left an hour after they announced the discount. They said the idea of this promotion was for new packages.

Go!!! If I had the Disney dollars, we would strongly consider going. But, we would have to use real dollars, economy is lousy and our hospital just cut 170 jobs (90 real, 80 not filled) so I feel like I should be more cautious with my money. Luckily, for me, the positions were mostly non-clinical and/or manager spots, which I got out of, so my position is pretty secure.
At any rate, our real plans are to go in 2010 but this sounds like such a great deal, I hate to pass on it.

I think you just got an uninformed CM. Techinically have to make a new ressie whenever there is a discount like this, rather than "applying" it to your current ressie. Know what I mean? But they should have just let you make the new ressie w/o the hassle. Understandably you may need to change your hotel, but like you said, it was w/in 1 hour of the announcement...hard to believe ALL the rooms for this deal, at the hotel you were staying at originally were already taken for your dates w/in an hour?? But nevertheless, I'm glad you were finally able to get someone to help you save money!! Could you do base tix instead of parkhoppers? That brought my total down quite a bit. Also, what about the QS dining plan instead of the regular DP. It's $10 per day cheaper. Oh, and make sure, if you call in your ressie, that you tell the CM not to add trip insurance. I had to call back because I went to check something online and the total was $200 less than the price the CM gave me. The next CM I got told me that the first had automatically added the $200 trip insurance without mentioning it. (If you're online, there's a place to uncheck trip insurance). So then she had to contact guest services to get it taken off my ressie.

And don't forget you have until 45 days prior to your arrival date to pay it in full. Maybe there's a tax refund in your future?? Hmmm???
Also, you do have to book before Christmas...anyway you could "sell" it as one of the gifts?? Then you won't spend as much on Christmas as originally planned?
Just throwing things out there!!:rolleyes:
Oh & another thing...you COULD book it w/the CS plan, but we love to sit down & it just wouldn't make us happy to eat at CS everyday...but you COULD book it w/CS, save $210 ($10/day *3 people *7 nights) and then switch it to DDP later if you wanted.
Again...just a thought...:p

Question: Okay, so I have 7 tickets - I probably won't be able to use 2 of them because those will be travelling days. Can I use those extra tickets to go in another park if I've already been in one park that day?
Sadly, no...from disboards:
A base ticket is one major (theme) park per day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park if you leave it on one day, but it can only be used at the one park.
If you put the ticket in the turnstile of another park the display on the Guest side of the turnstile will be "ACCESS DENIED". The top line of the display on the Greeter side will give information about the ticket, and the second line of the display will say "CROSSOVER NOT PERMITTED". The turnstile will not unlock.
This is because Disney charges $2.00 per day over five days on an adult ticket, but charges $45 to allow hopping. It does not make economic sense for Disney to allow this.

I can usually manage to stay in one park per day, and even 2 days in EPCOT. At Christmastime, I can stay all day even in DHS cuz I love to see the Osborne Lights. Don't know if anything special is going on in March when I made my ressie. Never been in March so I don't know how crowded it will be. I guess it will be now because of the special.
I am feeling just a bit of guilt, as this definitely wasn't in the financial plan but hopefully I'll get over it. I gotta get lots of surveys between now and then. I do have lots of Disney Visa points but will be using them for Dec. trip. Maybe I won't spend them all. HA! Fat chance of that happening.

I don't think you can do that unless you add Hoppers and then the 2 days still go to waste. Plan your arrival so you can at least hit a park the first day and your departure as late as possible on the last day and go just do a short day in the parks. Or if it will let you add non-expiring option that would give you two days for your next trip.

My ressie is at Pop. I asked about POFQ which was $175 more. So, if you're staying at a mod or deluxe, changing to a value will save some more. I really thought about POFQ for $175 more, as I've always wanted to stay there, but opted to try to soothe my guilty conscience with a value.

I priced it out for our June vacation in a value room just to see if by any chance we would do better to book a package and not use the room to get the tickets and stay DVC and it was no better. Guess I will stick with the original plan and just pay the $1500 of 4 days of tickets and Water park option since the kids insist on the waterpark option and those are full days themselves this trip. Last trip was commando and none of us want to be that rushed again so we didn't get to really see or enjoy anything.

9 hours - with 2-3 rest area breaks. Definitely couldn't do the 24, even with several drivers. I'd probably develop ADD or something in the car that long. Ya know, I think AirTran needs to come up a "the economy sucks" package too. If I could get roundtrip tix for $100 each (like 2 years ago) I'd be a happy Disney camper.

My sister is still toying around with taking her family. If she does, we will change our dates to Memorial Day week at Pop.
But, I didn't want to get locked out in case she decides not to go.
So, I just booked POFQ for us from June 16-23 with a waterview. I bought 10 day hoppers/waterpark option last July right before the ticket prices went up so I just had to buy 1 day ticket for each of us. We could end up going a couple of days early and staying a few more days at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Disney with free points - It's a great feeling to NOT look at the school calendar to figure out when we can go and not miss a lot of homework!
If we get to FL early, I'll have to hook up with you Angela (and anyone else coming during that time in June) just to say "HEY!"
I am hoping that the second round of proposed economic stimulus checks goes through - that would pay for our room! I'M VERY EXCITED!!!

i don't know if we'll get to go or not...DH's company was bought out last year and they take total control as of january 1, 2009. i contacted HR and they can't tell me whether his # of vacation weeks will stay the same or not. he has to use 2 of his 4 weeks for shutdowns the weeks of july 4th & Christmas, so if his vacation weeks are reduced, we won't have any other vacation weeks to use.
if i go ahead and book and we have to cancel (before the 45 day window) will there be a penalty?

No penalty if you cancel 45 days or more prior to arrival date. $100 fee for cancelling 44 - 24 (not positive about the 24), and $200 if under 24 days.

Okay...With all of my kids' family drama, I told them that I booked a trip for us. They were SUPER excited. I think there is the sadness that Dad will not be apart of it, but it is a nice way to start off our "new" family, you know? But I did not tell them how many days we are staying NOR when we are going. I will leave that still somewhat a surprise.
This trip will give them something to look forward to in the next few months when we sell our house and move (IF we sell our house...) and all the other changes that will come about.

I discussed this with my boys and voted me down. They are so use to staying in a condo that they don't ever want to stay in a hotel room again. It really is nice to go back to the condo and everyone have their own space. We might kill each other if we had a very small space. Great prices. But I can stay in a four bedroom condo for $499. There we each have a bedroom and a bath. Family harmony is priceless.
Jen GO!

Just a little FYI. Do a Google for 2009 College Spring Break (all in March). A few years ago, we went in March during the Flower Show (whatever it's really called), and not only did that add to the crowds but I think every college in the US was there on spring break. Waited 3 hours in line for Splash Mountain, and over 3 for Space Mountain. It was not one of our better trips. I had just scheduled our 7-day trip for 3/14 -21, and remembered to check the 2009 spring break schedule. Once again, that was college spring break time plus the Flower Show. I called back and rescheduled vacation for 3/29, still time enough to get the $200 gift card, and miss the spring breakers for the most part.

it's really not looking good, jen. just over a week ago they instituted a 20 question limit on many of the customers, so we're not getting as many questions and the system glitches are keeping questions from coming through. people are texting in questions and receiving responses that chacha is too busy to answer, but there are thousands of guides sitting at their computers waiting for questions that never come. it took me 9 hours to answer 150 questions yesterday, when it should've taken no more than 4.5 to 5 hours. i don't know what the truth is, and there's no word from HQ other than "we're addressing issues". chacha's communication with their contractors is HORRIBLE, but when the system works, the money is great. i was getting questions b2b yesterday morning, but after lunch, the system just died, and after 20-30 minutes, questions started trickling in about 3-5 minutes apart & stayed that way the rest of the day. i wish you better luck. according to the forums, traffic is still down and questions aren't getting answered. i honestly pray it's just a server problem, b/c DH's hours have just been cut and we're really going to need the money. it's not just fun money anymore for me.

This weekend has sucked.... I really think it is just a problem with the advertising they implemented. I am hoping the 20 question thing is temporary.... or I think there will be a drop. I gave up on trying any more this weekend. I had a goal of 1200 for the month, but I think it will be just over 1000 if things keep up the way they were this weekend. I really really hope it is just a system problem with the changed they implemented and that it is quickly resolved. Thankfully ChaCha is not my job....just my fun money, well that and SR. I feel your pain though.

I'M SO EXCITED! I've finally talked my sister and her family into going at the end of March. We will be at Pop just for 5 nights (3/26-3/31) and sister's family will be there from 3/28-4/4. With school commitments and standardized testing, this was the only time we could both make it and I'm excited we have a few days overlap. The kids are getting older and this is probably the last time we'll be able to coordinate a joint trip. My kids are 12 and 10 and her kids are 13 and 11 - a great age to go with all of them. We went 5 years ago and the kids don't remember much. They will this trip!
Plus, DH says I can keep the week at POFQ in June because he'd love to go to StarWars weekend.
I sure hope a stimulus package comes through!
