I need a shoe makeover and I need your help!!!! I really need a new pair of black dress shoes for a wedding coming up in September. And I'd like something that will take me throught the winter. But I'm having a couple problems.....

1.) I have about size 8, fat squatty feet and a not-so-svelt body. So I sometimes feel that I don't look good in dress shoes.

2.) I am very picky about my shoes being comfortable and am not into wearing very high heels. I can handle about 2-3 inches.

3.) I have a fear of buying shoes online. The only shoes I've ever bought online are crocs. I'm typically a PayLess kind of girl. (Don't judge me! :rotfl: )

Can anyone help or offer advice? I'd like to take advantage of the ShoeBuy deal right now, but I just don't know what to get.

Honestly you cant go wrong with Shoebuy because it is free to ship them back if they dont work. You lose nothing. I would go into the shoebuy website and you can narrow it down to allow you to choose all black dress shoes. You can even narrow it down to sling backs. I have short fat feet so shoes were always hard for me. I just kinda jumped in with both feet (no pun intended) the first time and now it doesnt worry me at all. Buy something cute and funky that you normally wouldn't get. Like a pair of high hell mary janes, or a black pump with a sexy Tstrap. Shoes are the one thing that I love because even when the rest of me looks horrible my shoes can look great!

FYI, if I were you, I'd go somewhere to have my feet measured, to see if a wide width is needed. I have fat squatty feet, which I like to call hobbit feet (hence a username elsewhere), and I'm definitely a wide shoe person.

It's amazing how much more comfortable heels become, when you have the width right.

And since I don't have spindly legs, I personally don't wear spindly shoes. I like a chunkier heel, I feel it balances me out better than a spike heel would.

Are you planning on wearing a dress/skirt mostly with these shoes or pants. I always wear pants. I'm not one for the newest, pointiest, most uncomfortable shoes. My favorite dress shoes are my Franco Sarto heels. I have several pairs.

Here is a nice pair at shoebuy.com that would go great with pants...

If you click on one of these links and like a pair you see, add them to your cart. Then come back to SR and click on the shoebuy.com link. Your shoes will still be in your cart and you will get your SR credit :)

Well, for the wedding I will be wearing them with a pair of dressy black gauchos (don't laugh!). But mostly I'll be wearing them with pants.

That is a good suggestion to get measured....it's been years. Maybe I do need a wide width.

I think pair #2 is cute, but there doesn't look like much toe room.

What do you think of these? I think they're cute, just don't know about the fat feet thing.

If you find out that you have wide feet, once you start wearing shoes that are made in a wider width, you will like shoes more. I promise. Didn't you say you shop at Payless? I used to do, and they have widths. Try on a wide width shoe there...it's much more heavenly, and you don't squish out the sides like you might with a "regular" width shoe. It's nicer-looking, b/c there's actually ROOM for your foot, instead of having to play Cinderella's stepsister with the shoe. :)

Those are cute but I do think you might have a toe issue.

The #2 pair is just like my favorites and my toes aren't squished at all. It is actually a square toe which doesn't have that narrowing effect like so many other women's shoes have.

I wouldn't laugh at gauchos. I think they are actually really cute (although not on me for some reason!)

I like the lifestrides posted. Those tend to be really comfortable. I tend to be sensitive to shoes as well (ignore the 3-4 inchers I have posted before). I tend not to do well with peep toes as I have wider feet near the toes as well. That would be my only hesitation with those. But they may not be too bad. Let me look around a little more.

Ok still shopping. Not sure where you live but these may take you through the winter if you live in the south. They are aerosoles and have an open toe. I think they'd go with gauchos.

These are less open but I don't think they'd be as cute with gauchos. Aerosoles as well

This is very good advice. Keep in mind that every company's sizing is just a bit different. I can wear anywhere from a 5M to a 5½W or a 6 depending on the manufacturer.

I think those are adorable and would look great with gaucho's. The strap around the ankle is a perfect accent.

You are lucky you can wear heels like that. Highest heels I can wear are about 1½" and that is pushing it for me.

I have fat feet. Right acorss the top of the foot. The only shoes that look really awful are ones that have very little material across that space.

Like Janet mentioned you can order several pairs as they do free returns.

Good luck!

These are very cute but notice how skinny the inside of the shoe is. I think you have to have a fairly narrow foot for these to look good. I bought a similar pair.........my short fat feet looked like duck feet in them.

This is my first pair of red shoes and I have fretted over which pair to buy. I have been dying for a pair and they just didnt have the perfect pair but this was close. The only thing that would have made them perfect would have been a skinny little tstrap. They are very cute though and I think I will love them.

Jumping in here to talk about my favorite subject!!! I love the last couple of pairs pictured. The only problem I see with the earlier ankle straps pictured is that if you don't have thin legs/ankles, they canlook (no offense intended -- I haven't seen your ankles) like you are putting a rubber band around a pillow. Just be careful with that. The open ones will lengthen your leg and make you look more slender.

Okay Janet.....you talked me into it. I just bought another pair of red shoes. I already have the Grasshopper Lisbons in red. They are flats and a loafer style.

I bought these. They are BCBGirls Slyng Salsa Red Leather. They have a tiny heel........perfect.

careful when you first start wearing those. BCBG shoes tend to need to be broken in at home before wearing in public. I have 2 pairs that I love but man oh man did I get some nasty blisters when I first wore them.

Thanks for letting me know. I have one of those funky shoe stretchers. Once I try the shoes on I know if they need to get stretched or go back. I bought one pair of shoes.......I think they were Naturalizers that rubbed so badly they made the back of my foot bleed. I also have pads for the back of the shoe if needed.

:) I will vote for number two also. I love shoes with straps like that. Very feminine. Remind me of the 20's Joan Crawford type of shoes. Who me???

I actually am bad. I went shopping last Friday at the factory outlets in Wrentham MA. Yes.....I went into almost every shoe store but I was really good.....I didn't buy one pair of shoes. Of course very FEW stores even carry my size. :rotfl:

On the way home, I stopped at Walmart. I found 3 pair of EarthSpirit Shoes (check them out on Shoebuy) in my size and 2 pair of slippers. :cooldance:

I don't know how Walmart can sell them for under $25 when they sell on various online stores and in B&M shoe stores for $100 or more. Might be last years style but who cares. I love the fit and the price.

And Janet..........I think I now have 3 pairs of red shoes.

Count me in the red shoe fan club as well. I have an adorable pair of red mary jane wedges with thin tailored bows on the tops that I got at Payless, probably three or four years ago on clearance for $4. They are STILL my #1 favorite pair of shoes! I wasn't sure what they would go with when I bought them, but it turned out that I actually had a lot of outfits that went perfectly with the color of the shoes.

Hmmm...maybe I need another pair of pretty red shoes. You people are bad influences!

Years ago I bought a royal blue pair of shoes. I loved those shoes. I wore them until they fell apart. I haven't been able to find anything I like since.

I think I may just go shopping again. I need a pair of loden/sage green shoes.....might as well look for royal blue ones too. On shoebuy you can search by color. :cooldance:

Oh ballet flats are all the rage and in ANY color especially metallics. Metallics can make jeans look dressy. I am looking for (gasp) leggings, I know, so 90's but they look so cute with all of the new longer baby doll shirts and throw in a pair of ballet flats and it is just so cute and comfortable. I cant wear ballet flats with my jeans because they are all so long and I like to wear heels with them so I cant just alter them shorter. If I can find the right pants I am ordering some ballet flats for winter.

I wish I didn't love ballet flats so much! I'm only slightly under 4'11 (and my husband is 6'1!), so I know I should be wearing heels to give me some much-needed height, but I am absolutely addicted to the flats!

I loved when Old Navy had the embellished satin ballet flats in jewel tones with embroidery and sequins. They looked like dainty bejeweled slippers. Those were GREAT to dress up jeans! I had silver ones and gold ones. The only problem was that they were very delicate. I lost several of the sequins and acquired stains on them, but kept wearing them because I loved them so much. Eventually I had to let them go and it was so sad! The bejeweled slipper trend seems to be over, but now there are flats in ALL KINDS of styles. So all that to say: yes, I highly recommend metallic ballet flats to dress up jeans!

Nah, you're not dating yourself too much. I'm only 26 and had tons of S&L flats back in the early nineties. I called them "bow shoes" back then!

I actually own a newer pair of S&L flats and love them as well. They are flat black mary jane slides and get compliments on them all the time. Picked them up on clearance at DSW for $8 about a year ago.

Wish DSW had shoes in my size. I loved the Bow shoes. My favorite was plain black ballerina stlye. I had pink ones too.
I loved those shoes.

These are have slightly bigger heels but I would recommend a really pretty shoe like one of these for the ceremony & pics and then a really cute and comfy ballet flat for the reception

What color are you wearing? White, off white? Only ¾" heels? Why only that height if you don't mind me asking?

I am very short......but can't wear big heels. They kill my feet. Highest I can go is 1¾ and in some shoes, that is pushing it for me.

Well I'm wearing Ivory but it looks exactly like white lol. 3/4" heels is what my reception shoes are, and the ceremony shoes need to be the same for the hem that my seamstress is doing :)

Also, FH and I are about the same height so I don't want to be taller than him! :)

They're all so pretty! I already have reception shoes though, and they're 3/4"... I'm afraid if I pick a heel much bigger than that my dress will end up dragging during the reception which we definitely don't want! Knowing me... I'll trip ;)

I thought I was losing my mind when I opened the box and saw a pair of shoes I had never seen before! :rotfl: SOooo....the shoes will be going back. :(

So I'm back to square 1....or maybe square -2....as far as finding shoes. I did try on the shoes they sent and at least now I know that I definitely DO need a wide. There was no way my fat tootsies were getting into that shoe!

There was nothing in the box with the shoes. No packing slip, no NOTHING! How do I go about returning them? And can I make an exchange instead of returning them if I find something else? That might help with the rewards part of it.

I'm so sad! Boo Hoo!!

The shoes I ordered for my daughter should be delivered tomorrow. I hope THEY fit!

OK I need to buy another pair of shoes for Callie. I bought her lace up Sketchers for school thinking she had to have lace ups. Well she can wear velcro and hates lace ups and wants the cute little bikers that I bought Grace. Here is my delimna, buy from Shoebuy which Im pretty positive wont credit automatically and I will have to file a trouble ticket to get credit which I already have 6 others for Shoebuy filed already but get the great deal. OR go through one of the other shoe places on here and have a better chance of getting credit but it will be a much lower credit and probably not as good of a deal. I love shoebuy I just hate bogging Tricia down with all of these TT's and I know this will be another one. Sheesh decisions, decisions!

Here is the link with instructions on how to make an exchange or a return.

Shoebuy Returns or Exchange Instructions (http://www.shoebuy.com/customer/returns.jsp#instructions)

I've never made an exchange, only a return. They took my SR credits back (and rightly so) but they took a long time to do it. I just re-ordered and got more credits. I also emailed Tricia to give her a heads up that I sent the shoes back.

Not sure how the SR credit thing would work with an exchange. Maybe Tricia would be able to tell you.

Janet........order through SR. You need that 13% to help pay for Disney.

mollyeilis
08-22-2007, 10:10 PM
Janet...

How about you either redeem for a SuperCertificate (47.50 credits for 50 in gift cert), or buy a SuperCertificate from giftcertificates.com (through SR of course).

Then redeem that SuperCertificate for Famous Footwear gift certificate (which alas comes in the mail, sigh). If you buy the SC, it's 2%, and FF is 8%. Also alas, FF shipping is not always free, but I don't know how spendy the shoes you're talking about are!

That way you've got one or two other ways to credit, and though the SR won't be as much, MAYBE they will credit automatically for you?

Oh and yes, in my experience, FF gift certificates do yield SR credits.

Hey, it's an idea! :)

If you want to deal with shoebuy...you can buy a SuperCertificate, redeem it for emailed shoebuy GC, and use that on shoebuy. Maximize credits. AND any leftover, I've checked this out, can actually be used on bagsbuy (shoebuy doesn't seem to "keep" the balance of the GC in their system). :rotfl:

Jill,

I would just return the shoes and let them take the credit back and then reorder the ones you want and get credit for those. I think I have seen issues with them messing up exchange rewards. Much easier to just send those back and reorder the ones you want. Just remember to keep the original credits in your account until they take them back.

Molly,

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will have to look through and see who else has them and what they cost is. with the 10% off and 10% off and 13% rewards it is so hard to find a close deal but I just dont know that those TTs will come through. The free shipping thrown in kinda makes it the best deal even without the rewards which I guess is the most important thing. Ill let you guys know what I decide.

Yeah I can wait that long. She has shoes to wear and just WANTS these so like her mother she has to have them LOL. I will wait a little while and see what happens. I think if this gets worked out I will even order a pair of the bikers that velcro for me. I love my slip on bikers but they make my instep hurt when I wear them too long. I guess my feet swell and there is no way to loosen them. Now Im not only addicted to my crocs but sketchers also. I got my red aerosoles in yesterday. VERY nice and comfortable. Cute as can be although I didnt realize the heel was kinda wedgy. Still very nice and I cant wait to wear them for our pictures.

I've been thinking about it and I'm going to do it that way. It's more cut and dry and they say on the site that it's faster that way. And if I go with my second choice shoes it'll be a higher credit anyways.

But who do I need to convince that I should be able to keep the original credit too since it was their fault????

jnorth1007
08-22-2007, 10:43 PM
Yanno I would call them tomorrow and let them know about the mix up. See what they offer to do. If they want you to exchange then just explain the situation with your rewards and tell them you just want to return and reorder. They may be willing to offer you something for their mistake, maybe a discount or gift card. LOL worth a try and more likely if you call and let them know that they have a mistake on there.

absolutely. and give them a call, first. when i was at amazon, so many people thought we didn't want to know and didn't want to help. they would mark something on return forms then wonder why the returns dept refunded them. that is when they would call, and that is almost too late. talk to them so they can fix their site and help to make it right.

This thread was really fun to read. We took a long weekend and visited friends that live near the ocean. It was so nice to be able to drive to the beach for the day and then go home. Anyway, my friend has a major shoe addiction. We went shopping at the outlets and she wanted to buy 2 more pairs of shoes - ones that she just had to have. So, she asked me to carry the shoes in her house and say that I bought shoes and when we leave, I would just leave the shoes there. As soon as I walked in the house with shoe boxes her husband asked her why she bought more shoes. :rotfl: I tried to say they were mine and he said that he wasn't born yesterday. He told me how she tries to tell him all the time that the shoes she has on were old shoes - He explained that the tag was still on the bottom of the shoe and he could see it as she was walking. :rotfl: It sounds like she would fit in great with you guys.

"Shoebuy likes her! They REALLY like her!" :rotfl:

Okay, on a sad note, my SECOND pair of shoes also doesn't fit! They were the right shoes this time, but they were ALSO mispresented on the website....they were described as 2 1/4 in. heels which I CAN do, but in REALITY they are 3 1/4 in. heels which I CAN'T do. (I know....it's just one inch, but it doesn't matter because they just don't fit!)

I think from now on I'm going to go look at shoes and before I buy them, check and see if I get them for as good or better a price on ShoeBuy and THEN purchase. (How much longer on the 10%/13%??? I also need athletic shoes!)

So now I have to take TWO pairs to the P.O. tomorrow! I'm so sad that my SR balance will be going down!

Update on my black shoe hunt.....I sent both pairs back to ShoeBuy.
I have to say that even though the shoes didn't work out for me, I was very pleased with my transactions...good deals, credited fine for me, easy returns. I went to DSW and tried on a BAZILLION shoes with no luck in finding the perfect shoe.

So yesterday, I'm in Target and needed to get some sneakers for DS ASAP and so I thought I would just look for me. And low and behold I found a pair that actually fit and I like. Soooo....in the spirit of Sunshine Rewards :sunshine2: ....I purchased them at Target to help pay MagicalJenK's salary! :rotfl:
