View Full Version : your free credit report...
anyone else do this one, get charged and not get credit?
I did this one last week and couldn't get through on the site. It timed me out after I put my cc in of course. It said to try again later. So, I figured it didn't go through and since I didn't see the credit for $9 I left it alone. Well, lo and behold I have a charge from them today, only .99 but still. So, I call them because I can't log into the site and never got a credit report. After a long speil about identity theft, the guy tells me my account was never activated...yet they still get to charge me.
Well, I ask them if there was another step that I was supposed to do because I really did want to see my credit report. Suddenly he got real nervous and said, fine, I will refund your .99 (which I didn't even ask for) and basically tried to get off the phone with me as quick as possible. I was literally trying to ask him a question and he hung up on me.
Not quite sure what this was about, but I wanted to let people know to be cautious with this one.

How bizarre. I had actually already pulled the offer because I didn't see any credits coming through. I'm glad that he gave you the .99 back just on principle!!

Could Question, and even better why hang up and offer a refund without answering a simple question!

Weird!
After DH had a bad experience with them (partially caused by his not READING what he was signing up for, and not realizing he had to cancel so as to not be charged), I won't do it at all.
So I don't know if the offer goes through the direct freecreditreport website or not, but if so, I noticed over on the side, the following:
When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 30-day trial period, you will be billed $12.95 for each month that you continue your membership.
If you think you saw that, you might want to make sure that gets canceled.
(I almost didn't post this, not wanting to be gloom and doom, but figured, if I see a post in a month about this charge I would feel like dirt, so I'm posting it, just in case)
Well. I knew there was a processing fee (.99), which really wasn't too much of an issue. The weird thing was that I got an error page saying that my transaction timed out. So they shouldn't have even gotten my cc number.
This is a different place from the freecreditreport.com. I know what you mean about that one. I did it a couple years back and when I went to cancel they told me that I was not in the trial period anymore. Apparently you have to cancel by midnight on the 29th day in order to still be in the trial period.

This is also not considered pulling your own credit report so the fact that they pulled it for you even if you didnt get to see it will show up on your reports as a inquiry. If you can go to the annualcreditreport.com site and pull your reports and check them. See where this inquiry falls because it makes no sense for you to have these inquiries affecting your credit if you didnt actually get to see your report. If they are on there file a dispute to have them removed and explain why.

Is this the 1-2-3 offer?

I think that a lot of these are run by the same company and they just try to make it look like other companies. :( I usually end up pulling them pretty quickly because they seem to be nothing but headaches for everyone.
