My DDs (6 and 8) have each asked for a Nintendo DS for Christmas. I know absolutely nothing about the Nintendo DS. Does anyone have any reviews on the gaming system? Any suggestions on what games to get and what SR merchants to get them through? Any information or advice would be much appreciated!:thanks:

my DD11 LOVES hers! i got a special deal through Amazon.com and SR late last fall and we gave it to her for christmas. it's small enough to fit in her purse to take on the bus to gifted class, but the screen is big enough for her blind-as-a-bat mama to play with her, lol.
ETA: my DD has brain age, american girl kit kittridge mystery...uh...the rest i don't remember, lol, but she loves all the games and she can use all of her gba games with it too.

Mine have about outgrown theirs but they loved Nintendogs and Animal Crossings.
My girls love New Super Mario Bros. and Animal Crossing...hmmm, also Mario Party, most of the petz ones OH!!! and Cooking Mama original and the Cooking Mama Dinner with Friends! Those are even fun for me!
Does anyone know if you can order these through a SR merchant and get credit???? My son really wants one for his birthday (since his sisters' have them :0) and I may as well buy one for SR credit...but I thought I remember seeing something saying that most SR merchants won't credit for video game systems...
Any SR merchant that DEFINITELY credit for a DS purchase???????:thanks:

WE have 3 of them in our house and their very popular, so yes for their age I would recommend them. Not sure about the new DSi and that's a few more $$'s so I would definitely read reviews on it to see if it's worth the extra money. DS10 actually just got his 2nd one a year and a half ago. He got his when the DS lite's first came out and played it so much after 2 (or was it 3) years it just died. We have so many games of so many genres with the 3 of them it's not funny. I do recommend Super Mario Bros, Mario Party 8 and even Pokemon for the girls can be fun if they're into it. Club Penguin was cool, and DS10 and DD5 1/2 like the Lego Batmans and Indiana Jones games.

I think there is a new upgrade version of the DS. I can't remember the name of it, but to be the coolest mom every, you might want to check it out. Anyone know the name of the new one?

Thank you everyone!!!:thanks:
I'm going to start making a list of games now so that I can check eBay for them. I can buy one or two games at a time over the next few months and have a nice stash of them by Christmas. (hopefully! ;) )
I'll also look into the DS Lite vs the DSI.
What about accessories? Any suggestions there?
Thanks again for all your help! I really appreciate it!!:thanks:

Another question...
Has anyone bought DS games used? If so, what should I look for? I have purchased used games for the PS2 and most have worked fine, but have no experience with used games for a DS/DS Lite. :thanks:

One other thing to know is that with the DS, they can both play the same game on separate systems with just one game. You wouldn't have to buy two of all of them to avoid fights. My brothers and I paly each other occassionally on ours, usually either Zookeeper or Mario Kart. As long as one kid has the game, the second can download it and play against the fierst at the same time.

Dniece wanted a case and a charger for the car (she played hers on road trips often). I got her this one from Best Buy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7772476&st=ds+charger&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1142289337163

That is so cool! Is it like that for all the DS games or just certain ones?

We'll definitely need a car charger since we drive to WDW. Thanks for sharing! :)

I'm not entirely sure. The games I play that we can do it with are Tetris, Mario Kart, and Zookeeper, but I'm also older and have different tastes. Someone with kids might be able to give you more games they can do this with. I think most of the games that are multiplayer can be used this way, but I can't say for sure.

It is just for certain games. The back of the box will say either single card play (one card for multiple players) or multi-card play (each player needs a card) and will also show how many players can play.
Also, FYI for anyone thinking of upgrading to the new DSI, they do NOT play GBA games. One of DS friends has one though and it is really cool!

Thank you for the info! :thanks: I will probably look at getting some of the single card play games to start with.

Mario Party is one where you only need one game, DD5 1/2 has it and the 3 of them love playing together.
If you buy used from Gamestop I'm pretty sure they guarentee them just like they do the other's. We've never had a problem with used games.

My son's both recently traded in their DS Lites for the DSI I will have the older one sit down and write a review or his thoughts about each tomorrow. All the Pokemon games I think also can be connected via the Wifi or download feature.

Any SR merchant that DEFINITELY credit for a DS purchase???????:thanks:
I purchased one of the special edition colored DS/game combo thru SR during Wal-Mart's Black Friday sale last year for DD9 for Christmas. Not sure about other merchants but I had no problems getting credit from Wal-Mart.

DD7 has one that she got when she was 5. Now she wants to upgrade to a Dsi and DS4 wants one. The dsi has internet connection, takes pictures and plays music. I got DDs at TRU at Christmas time. They often have bundles on sale. I got the ds, a game and a kit with a case, stylus and car charger. As far as games, she loves Nintendogs and the Imagine games.

Bumping for one more question, please...
I know that Walmart has been mentioned as a place where we may be able to get credit for the DS Lite. Are there any other SR merchants that allow cash back on video game systems? I see places like Game Stop listed, but it seems like cash back only applies to the games and not the actual units.
:thanks:

I believe Buy.com who actually has great prices and free shipping most of the time. I've bought a lot of stuff from them from a TV, bluetooth, video games, books, you name it.

Buy.com is my "go to" for games, systems and most electronic items. I usually get free shipping and it is tax free to PA - which is a savings on bigger cost items. I'm probably buying a DS lite today or tomorrow from Buy. I've been pricing it for about a week and other then ordering it off E-bay from the Orient (which scares me) they have the best deal I've found.
