Who is a DVC owner and where do you own? How long have you owned and do you have any tips you have come across since owning?

My parents own and my sister and I are on the deed. We own at Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk and it has been since 2009.

We've owned at Saratoga Springs since 2004. I'm itching for an add on too...

Did you buy yours through Disney? We bought through Timeshare store. My parents actually had me buy their last one while they were there last time. They close the end of the month, then they have 100 points that expire the middle of March they have to get rid of some how or loose.

I could figure out how to use those points :rotfl:

I've owned since 2008 at Saratoga Springs. I would love to add on at the GCV but the points there are so high...maybe one day.

My best tip is to use your points! I've heard way to many stories of people forgetting to bank points and ulitmately losing points.

You gonna fly down and use them?

We bought 150 points at Boardwalk in 2000 and added on another 100 three years later; we bought directly from Disney both times.
I would love to add on more - either at Beach Club or Bay Lake Tower. We've used every single point, but I can see where it'd be easy to lose track, especially if you have more than one contract. It does take some planning ahead which is a good thing for us - it forces us to sit down and decide how we're going to use our vacation.
I love our DVC - one of the best things we ever did, and I've never cared about analyzing whether or not it was a 'good' or 'smart' investment from the financial side. It's Disney, and it's good enough to just know I have accommodations at DW for as long as I'm around!

We bought 175 points at BWV in 2000. We later added on 125 points at Saratoga Springs. We love staying at the Boardwalk and have brought many family members with us. The Community Hall has many great activities and movies to take back to your room. One night on our trips we like to get pizza from the Boardwalk, get a movie from the Community Hall, and have a nice quiet evening after a long day at the parks.

We bought 160 pts. from Disney at AKL in 2008. And we came really close to adding on another 100 just last month, but decided to wait since we just got a car loan as well (my black friday purchase!). We love being able to know that we WILL take a vacation, cause we could never let the points go to waste! Wish we had joined sooner (you'll hear that a lot!)!!

We bought direct from Disney in 1993 at Old Key West when DVC was just under a year old. OKW was the ONLY DVC resort at that time.

In the beginning, people weren't buying DVC. It was a different kind of timeshare and people were skeptical. As an incentive our contract stipulated that we would received 1/2 the amount of park parkhopper passes that the villa for our length of stay. This was everytime we stayed at the resort until 1999. Too good a deal to pass up.

2 passes with a studio
2 passes with a 1 bedroom
4 passes with a 2 bedroom
6 passes with a Grand Villa

230 was the minimum amount of points you could buy. We used to go every for Spring break so we priced it out and with out points we could get a 2 bedroom every April........and got 4 free passes, enough for all of us. We did that for 6 years. :cooldance: When AK opened in 1998, they included it on our tickets. Score!!!

Now it's just DH and I that go, but in October the whole family is going and we booked a Grand Villa. We had to bank and borrow points but I had enough points left over after booking the GV to book a 5 day trip for DH and I in April. We're all very excited. DS hasn't been in 14 years. DD hasn't been for 7. DD's boyfriend has never been, and my grandchildren have never been.

It's one of the best investments we ever made.

If you can't use the points you might try to rent them. I think someone did it here. You can also try on that Disney Board.

We purchased 250 points at SSR back in 2005 while we were staying at the All Star Music. Before even coming down for our first DVC vacation we added 150 more points at SSR. All purchased thru Disney.

My "Nay" saying brother in law who always goes with us thought we had done the "dumbest" thing in the world. While two DVC trips later he purchases 150 SSR points. (200 Disney dollars for us as a referral).

Since it is DH, me, DBIL, DD20 and DD18 most of the time we allow the girls to bring friends or we bring DGD7. We've also brought our sons and their families down with us. We never have enought points and are always borrowing but with 550 points we don't want to purchase anymore.

We have ourselves spoiled and we like to take 2 week vacations so that is why we run short of points.

Every trip is a memory. A couple of memories so far have been that our son asked his girlfriend to marry him, seeing our granddaughter table dive whenever a masked Disney Character came within 20 feet, watching that same granddaughter get to meet Jasmine and fly the magic carpet ride with Jasmine and Aladin. And there have been so many more good times. In fact I am setting at our Boardwalk View Villa typing this.

This was by far one of the best decisions that we have ever made....

We own 200 points at Saratoga Springs. We bought on our honeymoon in 2008 - also my first trip! I had no idea what I was getting into :rotfl:

Though it was a lot of money, we are able to take fabulous vacations. I love the accommodations. I love getting to eat my own breakfast in the room. Since we've bought, I've been able to stay at VWL, BLT in a MK view (with friends who own there), and Kidani Village with a savanna view. I'd never get to stay in great places like those without DVC.

DVC owners here as well. We started out with Saratoga Springs and then did add-on contracts at OKW, BWV, VWL, and lastly VGC out here in CA. We've just recently put our SSR points up for sale as life is changing right now with job situations but when those points sell (hopefully just a short time down the road) we'll still have 335 points to use on a yearly basis.

Just as a heads up.....the new point schedule for 2011 has been spotted and there have been reallocations for the 2011 Use Year.

We initially bought 120 pts. at the BCV in 2004 while at WDW on vacation, came home and added on another 100 pts....about 6 months later added on two contracts with 50 pts each, so we own 320 pts. total. We bought enough to stay in a studio just the two of us and a 1 bedroom if anyone wants to join us? Lately it's only been the two of us in a 1 bedroom because we have been cruising the other half of the year. Love my 1 bedroom and now I'm spoiled with the washer and dryer and not having to bring luggage with us. Staying in a studio with two girlfriends for one night in February before our Disney cruise. Love sharing the magic and we have not regretted the purchase for one second.

We bought 100 points at Hilton Head in 2006. So far we have used them for a trip to Hilton Head, a trip to Disney, and starting to plan a 2012 trip.

We have 33 points that we will most likely be transferring or renting after March 1 if anyone is interested.

Yeah, this a surprise, huh? Both contracts have sold (rather quickly, too) and both should close around the same time in March. Life is changing a bit. Nuestra nueva casa serĂ¡ en San Miguel de Allende.

No Sunshine Rewards en San Miguel de Allende. :( Unless of course they also keep some kind of US residence for other purposes. Maybe I will all of a sudden have to start looking for Mexican surveys. LOL!

We actually will have a mailing address in the states, so hopefully all contact with SR won't be lost!! I'm not sure that SM status will continue and that will smart a bit as I've been a SM every quarter since I joined (and even SM plus once!). Shopping credits will definitely be going down....

Say it isn't so. We need you here. We don't have anyone else who can sing "Mack The Knife" like you do.

Here's our story - We rented points from someone in 2008 with the intent on staying at AKL. Well she could only get BWV and we were waitlisted. It never came through so we had to "suffer" going to BWV. I now have 125 points at BWV and "suffer" every year!! :cooldance:

In January we had a GV there and it was wonderful!!! We had 10 people altogether and it was heaven. No running back and forth to eachother's room and we got to borrow some games from Community Hall, trivial pursuit and pictionary, and had a blast!

I have been an AKV owner (only 100 points) since August 2008. DH is not a Disney fan like I am, but he reluctantly agrees to go and somehow manages to have fun each time:D.

We are only 34 days away from our next trip "home". We are driving down from Michigan with my parents. It will be DH and I, DD6 and DD4, and my parents...all in the Suburban! We are staying one night at Buena Vista Suites and then we are moving over to AKV-Jambo for two nights followed by three nights at AKV-Kidani. For the first two nights, my family has a savanna-view studio and my parents have a standard studio. At Kidani, we are all staying in the same standard 2BR. It took two years worth of points, plus 6 banked points and another 8 points transferred in, but we get the week of Easter at AKV:banana:.

Without DVC, there is no way we would be going over Easter and staying in a "deluxe" level resort. Even in a value resort, it would cost as much as our DVC points cost us for the week. I look forward to many more years of vacations.

Maybe I will "Sunshine" my way to an add-on:sunshine:.
