Just going through my notes and haven't seen one of those in quite a while. And the MID ones where you'd get the $10 gift card or kickback gift when you mailed in the form? Ahhhhh...those were the days.

I think State attorney general's offices started getting after them. 99% of freebie offers are scams and the government has been cracking down. That's why we have tried to distance ourselves from most of them. Here's a story about brandarama:

I remember overhearing their CEO meeting with people in the Executive Lounge of the Hilton in New York at one of the conferences we attended. They acted like he was some kind of God in our field. Unfortunately, a lot of the "big players" in our industry tend to be the ones that are defrauding both the customers on one side and the advertisers on the other. I see it every day. They say that one of the fastest ways to make money in our industry is to trick people into signing up for offers that they will get repeat billed on (either their cell phone, credit card, or home phone). These people are ruthless.
