Needing one for our fall trip. Wondering what thoughts are here on rentals and the best way to get the best rate. Thanks in advance for any info! :thanks:

Two of my favorite sites for getting discount codes are mousesavers and flyertalk. Take time to go through the codes and you'll see there are huge price differences. After you book, (through SR of course!) keep checking your reservation on a regular basis - If it lowers, rebook - there is no fee to cancel.

I would see what the average price for the size car you want is for your vacation dates and then go to Priceline and place a bid naming your own price. Cut the average rate in half and then go up a couple of dollars each time you rebid. You should get a great deal that way and SR credits.

If you use Hotwire or Priceline, can you choose which company you rent with? Just something to think about if you rent in MCO, you could get a rental company that is off airport and you'd have to haul your stuff on a shuttle to get to the rental company. That wouldn't be much fun if you'd be getting in late at night or have tired babies with you.

I am fairly certain you can't, which is why I am concerned about doing that.... I was hoping to just be able to do it directly b/c I don't want to have to deal with an offsite company...anyone know for sure if priceline or hotwire does strictly on airport co's at MCO?

I also use mousesavers for codes and Qs. I also find the Entertainment Book contract ID gives one of the best discounts and found a $30 off Q on their website. (You can, of course, purchase an EB for SR cash back!) I join any "free" rental car programs as well.
I actually use a spread sheet to keep track of the base rate and all the contract ID and Qs by date. The price for the same car varied by as much as $500 for my trip in May. I was only looking at on site rentals in Orlando as I don't want to drag my junk on and off shuttles. Getting it across the street to the on-site rentals is adventure enough!

I got my best deal from Hotwire. Every time I have used Hotwire it has ended up being Hertz. Credit came through quickly.
