It's Friday the 13th! 13 is actually one of my lucky numbers, so I always love Friday the 13th. (although the movie is not one of my favorites) I thought that we would have a little fun today with a Friday the 13th theme. Have you ever had something happen to you that just chilled you to the bone? Maybe a coincidence that just seemed to be too much? A "haunted" feeling that you couldn't explain? Post your stories here (enter as many times as you want!) and Cindy and I will pick a few winners. We're headed to NYC for a conference this weekend and will pick out some special gifts from our merchants just for YOU!!!

We lived in a haunted house when I was in law school. My husband's grandparents had both died in the house. It was an older house, and the only way you could lock the front door was to physically put the key in the lock and turn it. One day, I had a partylite party, and was helping the consultant take her stuff out to her car. When I went to come back in, I had been locked out. My husband was upstairs asleep in bed. My keys had been on the kitchen table, about 20 feet from the door. Guess Grandma and Grandpa thought I needed to be out in the cold! They also used to move an angel figurine we had on top of the tv stand. It would be facing out, and then be completely turned around. Our only consolation is knowing they were "friendly" ghosts!

I was in London with my mom and sister many years ago and we were walking thru one of the many squares and it was very crowded. It was the only time I've been in a crowd that I was truly scared and thought that something bad was going to happen. Nothing happened but I still remember that feeling of impending doom after 14 years!

When I was in college I worked at the Mickey D's behind our dorms to pay may bills. My shift was from 8 pm to 3 am. One weekend when I was not at work, our store was robbed at gunpoint at 3 am. The gunmen made everyone get on the floor and locked the manager in the safe. The next night I had to work and everyone was talking about the robbery and how scared everyone was, and who would have done what differently. The evening was tense but went ok, as we were closing up and the manager was heading to lock the doors when two guys dressed in dark clothes appeared at the entrance and someone screamed, "Oh, God, they are back!!" I almost died trying to figure out if I should dive under the counter or run for the back entrance. My heart was in my throat and I thought "this is it I am going to die" In the next minute the manager announced, "Oh, it's not them it's the detectives investigating the robbery!" It's a feeling I have not forgotten to this day!

My lucky number is also #13, it actually is the day I was born but not a Friday, I was born on Saturday the 13th, missed it by a year...being born on the 13th, is that freaky enough? Actually, I always see my birthdate on a digital clock (10:13), I mean all the time, now this is freaky and I've been told that it means someone that has died is trying to contact you?

I work in an office with a ghost. No one has ever seen him but many have heard him. It can be creepy when you know you are alone and can hear shuffling paper and footsteps. Our theory is that someone who worked in the building when it was first built is still here working away. Rather depressing actually. A sample of a "hearing": there is a one person bathroom near the reception desk for the building. Near the end of the day many people on the floor are trying to use it. One day just as two people came to the reception desk, they all heard the door of the bathroom close and the lock engage. They stood at the desk chatting and waiting for the person to come out. After about 10 minutes they got impatient and knocked on the door. No one answered and when they tried the handle the door was unlocked. They were all totally creeped out!

On January 30 (I can't remember the year), I went to bed and had a dream that I witnessed a "national disaster". I woke up, unable to remember anything specific about the "disaster" other than that it impacted the entire country. The only thing from the dream that stuck in my mind was the phrase "Remember 201", which was written in the sky in my dream.
I told my husband that I thought something bad was about to happen on a national level and of course he laughed at me:rotfl:. Well, the next day, the space shuttle crashed on re-entry, killing everyone on board:cry:. The date was 2-01...

For years I would always see 10:20 on the clock. It seemed like every time I looked at it, the time was 10:20. My father is a clockmaker, so we had alot of clocks. Years later, when my 2nd son was born they said " it's a boy born at 10:20am. I said "are you kidding? at 10:20? Most parents are more concerned with the sex of the baby. After he was born it all stopped. I see all times now! I had never heard that someone who has died was trying to contact me. It's kind of freaky though!

When I had given bith to my DD the nurse was taking her over to the exam table and I asked if she had a birthmark. The nurse looked right at me with a strange look. My Dh walked over to look at DD and said that she does. She had a large portwine birthmark on the side of face.
My middle DS was traumatized after a car accident. He was about 7 years old. About 7 months later, we came out of Chuck E. Cheese and he says I don't want to be in a car accident. We are all standing on the sidewalk and I just gave him the brush off, "We're all fine. There's no car accident here." He rode with his grandparents and they were in a fender bender in the parking lot. Now whenever, he is worried about something, I take him much more seriously.

This one gave me the chills!
When I was working full-time, I was lucky enough to have a cleaning lady. She was here working a few days after my mother died in 2002 and told me she could hear voices down in the family room while she was upstairs. She distinctly heard someone coming up the basement stairs, a man's voice, and someone else saying the word "Skip." Skip was my dad's nickname (real first name was Otto--wouldn't you have a nickname too?!?) and he died in 1968. She came downstairs because she thought my brother had come in the house, but no one was here. This didn't happen on the 13th, but my mom died on December 10th and this was a few days after.
I like to think that maybe my mom and dad were here celebrating being together again!

When my daughter was 3 she looked at my grandmother who was keeping her that day and said I hope Phillip (a cousin who lives in another state) has a safe flight. We didn't even know he was going anywhere because it had been weeks since we had spoken with anyone on that side of the family. Well my grandmother called Phillip's grandmother that night and sure enough Phillip had boarded a plane that day on his way help on a mission trip.

My oldest dd, walked outside one morning at 5:00 a.m. and it was still dark out. She said a man dressed from the 1800's was standing next to our garage, and she just walked past him, figuring he was the husband to the lady she see's walk past our back door on our deck, dressed too from the 1800's. When she told me this story, I asked her why she never told me the story of the person walking on the deck. She just shrugged and said, she seems the occasionally. She was 3 years old the first time she saw them. She said she saw them, the first day, we moved into our house. I remember a few times she would tell me to get a shade for the patio door, because she didn't like to see people out there.
Last Fall, we pulled our bushes that were in the front of our home out, because they were so over grown. We worked the ground up and added black dirt and we hit a stone, or we thought. Here we dug up a hitching post. Then a bunch of horse shoes. One horse shoe was actually very tiny, and my dd told us to put it back. She said it belonged to the old man and his donkey. We needed to keep the donkey shoe in the ground for good luck.
I lived in our house 23 years, and I have never seen anything. My other kids all said they have seen the women walk across the deck, but no one has ever seen the old man and his donkey.

My beloved father passed away 12 years ago, a full year and a half before the birth of his 1st great grandchild, my granddaughter. My granddaughter was a very early talker and, before she was two, she spoke to her Mom about the man who came to visit her at night. She was very animated about him visiting and seemed to really like it. At first, my daughter didn't pay too much attention to her since she was a baby. One day, my daughter had a photo album out and my granddaughter became quite excited when she saw a picture of my dad. She told her Mom that this was the man who visited her at night. Truth or not, this gave us all chills down our spines!

Oooh getting shivers from a few of these.
They are also reminding me of a dream I had the night before my uncle's funeral. He was sitting on the side of my bed and we had a whole conversation about the family. He asked me to watch over his youngest daughter when they played a certain song because he knew it would make her cry. It wasn't a song you would normally hear at a funeral so I thought it was just a dream. But then they played the song! And it did make my cousin cry :( The rest of her family were dealing with their own stuff so I made sure she had someone there to hold her hand and talk to her. My uncle had mentioned in the dream that lime popsicles were his favourite (although I never saw him eat one). I told my cousin that and now we smile a little whenever we eat a lime popsicle.

My sister and I shared a 2nd floor bedroom when we were growing up. Neither of us ever felt comfortable going to sleep without looking under the beds and in the closets to make sure nobody was in the room who shouldn't be. I guess this behavior isn't so uncommon in childhood, so when I grew up, I never thought much about it. When all the kids were out of the house, my parents went on a trip. My "baby brother" who was in his 20's at the time came to house sit, sleeping in a 1st floor bedroom under my old room. Being a big strapping guy, we were surprised to hear that he got freaked out by footsteps that he heard overhead in my old bedroom in the middle of the night. Figuring it was a burglar, he crept up the steps with a baseball bat to confront this uninvited "guest." Although he repeatedly searched the entire 2nd floor, he found nothing, so he went back downstairs to bed, only to have it happen again and again. It takes a lot to scare my brother, and believe me, he was scared.
I guess I neglected to mention it was believed that this house was built on an old Indian burial ground.

this isn't spooky weird, but still unusual. My grandparents were in their mid 80's, and not in good health. My grandpa had Parkinson's really bad. Grandma had several strokes, and was kind of in and out of it. They were in a nursing home, and fortunately, were allowed to be in the same room. They had been married for 65 years. They did everything together. So much that their birthdays were only a day apart. Well, one night, Grandpa died. It was in the middle of the night, and they didn't wake my grandmother. They took him out of the room, and got her around normally in the morning. They took her to breakfast. As I said, you never really knew what she understood, or if she knew what was going on. Well, after breakfast....she died too. We all assumed Grandpa came back and got her.

When my daughter was 3 she came out of her bedroom talking to herself. When I asked who she was talking to she say Emma and Diane. Emma is my husbands mom who passed away many years ago(and she had never met) and Diane is my sister who passed away when I was 6. Instant chills for my husband and I!! She proceded to do this at least 2 more times also. One time I asked where Diane was and she said "shes up high but she just talks to me sometimes"!!! After that she never talked about them again.

The morning my grandma passed away, I was sitting in church with my boyfriend and his family. At the time she approx passed, suddenly I had the urge to cry and tears were running down my face. I learned 3 hours later from my parents that she had had a massive heart attack that morning and had died. I was mourning for her before I even knew she was gone. Very strange.
The other weird thing in my family is the number 8. Which is a lucky number. My bday is the 18th. My two boys are the 28th, my DD was due the 28th but came on the 8th. My grandparents birthdays were the 8th and 28th in 1918. We tell DH he's the odd duck out cause he doesn't have the #8 in his bday. Needless to say, 28 is my favorite #. That's why it's in my screen name.

I work in a nursing home. For several years when I first started they had a "Summer Event." This was a day long happening with a theme - games, special lunch, entertainment, etc. The day was for the residents, but staff were also allowed to participate on their breaks.
One year, the theme was "Boardwalk." At the time, I had long, spiral permed red hair. The powers that be decided I would be the perfect Gypsy Fortune Teller. Only problem? I don't tell fortunes.....
So, onto the internet I go and get the basics of palm reading. My thought was that I would just do an 'explanation" of the meaning of each line. What actually happened sort of freaked me out.
It didn't happen with everyone that came through my booth, but for the vast majority I would start with my explanation spiel and then.... Something would come over me and I would start talking real fast and going into all kind of detail about different aspects of their life. I would be telling them about losses and crisises and difficult times as well as strengths and challenges.
To this day, some of the staff still come up to me and ask how I knew all about them. All I can say is I have no idea and it was exhausting! I have never attempted to read palms again.

Back in 2005 I had an uncle who was sick and taken a turn for the worst. My family and I are were especially close to my Uncle Eddie (we grew up 2 houses away and his 6 children are really like my siblings) Now my Uncle Eddie use to tease my daughter Sydney and always called her Sally... she always got a kick out of this and looked forward to her conversations with him! She didn't realize that he was sick, since she was only 4 at the time of his death.
At 3:45 in the morning on Jan. 28, 2005 Sydney came into my room crying and a bit upset. I pulled her close to me and asked her if she had a bad dream. She said she didn't have a dream, but didn't want to tell me because she knew I would be upset. I told her I wouldn't be upset with whatever she wanted to tell me... finally she told me that Uncle Eddie came to tell her he was going to Heaven and he didn't want his little Sally to be sad and he gave her a chuckle and squinty eyed smile that she loved so much.
I was taken aback when she said this, knowing he was sick thinking maybe she overheard a conversation, but told her that she didn't need to worry and to lay down in my bed and get some rest... my phone rang at 4 am and it was my mom letting me know that my Uncle Eddie had past away 15 minutes ago!
That is when I began to cry..... I told my mom about what Sydney had said and we were both just in shock.
I waited until after the funeral to tell my Aunt Violet (Eddies wife, my moms sister) and she just smiled and I think it gave her some peace knowing that Uncle Eddie spoke to someone who loved him so. My daughter still remembers her uncle fondly and when we go to the cemetary to visit him she looks forward to her chance to talk to him.....

When I was pregnant I was in the airport and they paged my unborn child.
That is they used the name we had picked already for the baby... first and last name. My husband and I looked at each other...laughed and said she couldn't pick up the phone yet.

We went Ghost Hunting with a group of "real" ghost hunters! Our town has a colorful historic background. We were founded on temperance and liquor of any type was not allowed in town. We have a building called the Temperance Building(original) that is said to be haunted. We were lucky enough to get to spend the night with the ghost hunters the night they researched the Temperance Building. On the second floor there is one window that many people have reported seeing a man in a military uniform standing in. We were in this room trying to get the spirits to contact us. One of the ghost hunters was at the window asking the ghost if it was alright for him to be touching his window. Just as the ghost hunter touched the window a motion sensor light they had stuck to the wall went flying across the room! It didn't just drop off the wall it flew out 4 feet! My son was sitting right next to the light and he jumped up and ran across the room. As he ran he started yelling that he was so cold, freezing. That only lasted 45 seconds. Then he was warm again. I don't feel the same about that building anymore. http://johnnorrisbrown.com/paranormal-tn/temperance/temperance-1.jpg The window in question is the window with the arch on the left of the picture.

Friday the 13th is always my  favorite day too. I was born on Friday the 13th at 3 lbs 4oz. They could not put me in the only incubator since the little hospital already had a baby in it with a club foot. They told my mom I would not make it to just take me home, to die, but I was stubborn and lived.
:hugs:My youngest daughter was also born on Friday the 13, a preemie and she had a hole in her heart and the doctors said she would not be able to play like the other kids, but she proved them all wrong. Now at 26 she runs marathons.
For me Friday the 13th is special and my favorite day of the year. I always ask people do they know the date, and listen to their fears. Then I tell them that it is all perception and how lucky it is for me, and leave them smiling.
And I do have lots of luck on Friday the 13th. 2010 Friday 13th, I won locally a $25 :minnie: Disney Gift card.

Well, yesterday I made it all the way to the dinner with no incidents. DH wanted to go out to eat and I said we should save money and eat in. I was cooking Manwiches and sliced my thumb open with the can. After I bled into the Manwich meat, DH took me out to eat! Should have listened to him in the first place!!!
Edited to add: The "haunting" feeling was that DH was right all along! :rotfl:

i grew up in a haunted house. my mom expressed a desire to move the year after DH and i got married, so she moved out and we moved in. one night when DD12 was just a few months old, it was about 3:30am and i was suddenly awakened by footsteps-heavy footsteps, like work boots. you could hear them making their way through our house. first the living room, into the kitchen, then into the hallway, coming toward the master bedroom, which was directly at the end of the hall. i was so terrified, i couldn't scream, so i just kept shaking DH, but he wouldn't wake up. finally, the footsteps were so close, i knew they were about to be in the bedroom doorway, so i closed my eyes, not wanting to see anything....they suddenly stopped. i opened my eyes, and there was nothing there. nothing. DH never did wake up, and i laid there the rest of the night, wide-eyed and shaking. he still doesn't believe it ever happened.
p.s...strange things had occurred in the house all my life, the most notable of which was one morning when i was about 11-12. i woke up first one sunday morning to find the peanut butter, jelly and bread all out and opened on the kitchen counter, but DBro and DMom didn't know how it got there either.
