I came home from work today to find a box on my kitchen table. Now this is not unusual as I have done a lot of shopping and lately there is always a package on my table. But todays the box was not a brown shippipng box it was an HP printer box which you could read very plainly. Walmart shipped it to my house with no brown wrapping. My son said to me Good thing mom this was not a Christmas present not knowing it was for him. I am a little disappointed this is how the package came

The same thing happened to me with the DVD players I ordered from Wal-Mart. The were delivered by FedEx and the delivery guy just left them on my now very exposed front porch. It's a good thing I was home, but not able to answer the door right away!

Both UPS and FedEx leave all packages on my porch all the time. They don't even bother to knock or ring the bell and 80% of the time I am home. One day Brandon came home and said there were 8 boxes on my porch. I had been home all day.

Ya know, come to think of it we got a UPS delivery yesterday and the doorbell didn't even ring. What is up with that? I wonder why they do that. Does it slow them down if we actually answer the door?

Considering that these were big boxes that sucker must have been tiptoeing and working not to let me hear him LOL

I have taped a note to my door stating "Do not leave any packages outside of my door if I am not here to sign for them" That way if they ignore it and I have a package gone missing then the UPS people can't get too mad at me since they are clearly at fault. It has cut down some on my missing packages saga.

The same thing happened to me last year. My daughter's Dora Desks both arrived unwrapped! I was so upset. Thank God, they couldn't read!

It also happened with Bass. I ordered DH some Fishing Waders and they just shipped them straight off the shelf. Of course, he opened the door for UPS. I called the company and explained that I would be returning the item as it was no longer a surprise! Seems like these companies would have enough sense to know not to send gifts unwrapped or not in boxes during the holiday season!

I'm so sorry and understand completely about your disappointment. :hugs:

Yes, that is very disappointing! I had the same thing happen last year through I think Amazon. But like Lisa, my son was too young to figure anything out at that time. This year I ordered a Mickey Mouse trike that said it would come in the original manufacturer's box. So, I was actually surprised to see it show up in a HUGE Amazon box- in addition to being wrapped in a blue bag lol. But it stinks to have a surprise ruined that way!!

These days UPS doesn't ring the bell here anymore!

I've had the same thing happen in the past from many different shopping sites. It stinks.

The one I was really worried about is my DD8's american girl doll. Thankfully, it arrived today in an unmarked box.

You know, UPS used to ALWAYS ring the bell and leave the package. Recently though, they stopped ringing. I wonder if they got complaints about ringing and running?

Ohh...that's terrible! I'm so sorry. I'd be frustrated too.

My mom lives up the street, so I usually have everything shipped to her house. The girls are getting guitars. Last wk, we were out with my mom. Dropped her off at her house and there sat one of the guitars, looking just like a...guitar. One of them said something, I quickly said it wa a trellis for Grandma's flowers. Don't know if they bought it or not.

I have had the same UPS man for years. He used to ring the doorbell but my kids were young so I would put a note up saying to please just leave them in case of naps. Now he does one fast knock. He is the best UPS man. Funny thing is he is not all that friendly. But I really like him. :) He will get some gift from me this year.

Same here, we always have our garage door open our UPS man leaves them in the garage right by the kitchen door if it's open, if not he leaves it in the corner of our front porch and rings the bell. It's nice bc some are really big and he always brings them in the garage when it's open.

My problem is with USPS. I had ordered a large number of photo prints, so the box was too big for my mailbox. The mailman left them on the edge of the stoop where there is no protection and it had been raining all day long. If he had walked up two steps and put the boxes in front of the door, they would have been under the eave and the rain wouldn't have touched them. And of course, he didn't knock or ring the bell and I was home all day. Fortunately, the pictures were not wet, but the boxes were soaked.

We had the same UPS guy for years and he was great. He told my husband once that "this house keeps me in a job." Funny Guy!!!

He must have retired because it''s been years since I've seen him, and now we never have the same one. Some of them ring the doorbell and some of them don't. Usually I hear the truck and go to the door.

I think they don't ring unless they need a signature because it slows them down. Plus, they don't want to have to carry the packages into the house. They are under a lot of pressure to get the items delivered quickly.

I'm sorry Walmart did that to you. It's Christmas.....we're buying gifts.....what was Walmart thinking?? Mmmmmmmmm......they weren't.

I have to say most companies I have ordered from have shipped the item in another box. I ordered from LLBean today and even their email says "might contain gift information" in the subject line!!! Now that is being careful!!!

Meanwhile, I live in a secured building, and until just today, UPS, FedEx, and the postal guy knock and wait for me to answer my apartment door.

On the other hand, when I worked at amazon we had MAJOR issues with UPS (I helped solve them, with the help of my handy dandy Lead, who is now my DH)...they would leave things in the bushes in places like Maine when it was snowy, no one could find the packages, and then in the spring they would find everything that had been sitting there for months, lol. Of course WE had to replace these things. :)

We found a box of books from Barnes and Noble about 4 months later.:rotfl: I always wondered what the UPS man was thinking when he put them there.

Awww, that really stinks! I have had things delivered without any wrapping or plain boxes in the past too-most places used to enclose the original boxes in either plastic or a plain box-- my mailman is a decent guy - knocks and even toots his horn if he thinks I'm home and didn't hear him - UPS guy is great too, but does not knock anymore-he said they are required to honk once and, since no physical signature is required anymore (??), just leave the package near a door. Could be trying to avoid chatting with each person they deliver to so as to keep to their tight schedules?

they always ring my door bell, but never wait for me to answer. Ups rings then throws the package, if he can get close enough to ring the doorbell then why can't he set down the package instead of thowing it at the door.

I feel your pain! I ordered golf clubs for DD from Dick's and Fed Ex delivered them in the original box. And she was coming home from school right about the time it was dropped of. I made a mad dash upstairs to hide them!!!

I just got a box from AG, and in really small letters on the shipping label (right under the Ship-to address), it does say 'Order from American Girl'. I believe they started doing that shortly after 9/11. If you place your order on the phone, they usually tell you that the company name is in small letters on the label - I don't know if it tells you anywhere on the web site if the order is placed online.

I ordered a bike for my daughter a couple weeks ago and it was on my doorstep in the original box, just a label plopped on it. I work so didn't see it until that afternoon. If someone in the neighborhood wanted a bike, they could have had it. Luckily I have a neighbor across the street that stays home and would have told me.
It would be nice if they reboxed things though. I haven't opened it yet, but the box has taken a beating. I hope nothing is scratched or dinged. We had to hurrily hide it from my DD so she wouldn't see it. Maybe we should start complaining to these companies to rebox things. I would probably pay extra to make sure it was reboxed just for safety.

I would be annoyed, and let them know. Although I wonder if they're trying to be responsibly green and not use additional packaging? :dunno: Our UPS guy is wonderful, always comes to the door and rings; he has been our deliverer since my daughter was a newborn, and he didn't use the doorbell then, he said he knew where all the little babies were on his route so he could remember not to interrupt their sleep! Now if we could get our trashmen to stop coming at the crack of dawn...
