My DH decided that he would like to have a netbook. I went out yesterday looking at them and now I'm not sure that would be the best. He wants something that he can surf the web at night when I'm on our laptop(doing SR surveys), he can check emails, and it is small enough that when we travel, we can take it with us instead of my laptop. After speaking with two different salesman they both said that all netbooks are really slow and that an ipad would be a better choice. An ipad would be nice but they are a lot more money than a netbook and DH would prefer a key pad to a touch screen pad. Does anyone have a netbook? Do you like it? Are they slower than dialup? The store had an ipad there that I got to try and it would be nice but I know that DH had his heart set on a netbook. Confused as to what to get him. I really don't want to spend the money and get a netbook if they are as bad as the salesman in the store said or where they just trying to get the ipad sale? Thanks in advance.

This is 100% inaccurate. The speed of surfing is dictated by the speed of your connection. The processor on the ipad is not really that fast. You can get netbooks with all different processor pads.
I'm actually getting a Dell Duo because it is like the ipad on top but you can flip it up for a full keyboard. I like the ipad for watching videos and playing games, but it is not good if you like to have a keyboard.
You can get a decent netbook for $250.

I just got the Acer Aspire on sale on Thanksgiving for $189........listed on Amazon for $350. i LOVE it!! It's faster than my computer which is only 2-1/2 yrs old and it's lite and quick and works great! my one and only complaint about it is that it doesn't have a right click button, and the scroll bar is annoying. but i've already ordered a mouse for it so that's easily corrected!

Got my Toshiba Netbook last Christmas and just love it. Travel with it constantly. It is so lite-and it is quick-almost quicker than my laptop. Dont think I could be ever without one again.:):)

Thanks so much for all the replies. I am off to take a closer look at the netbooks. I hope that I'm not too late for a good deal.

Tricia - did you get the Dell Duo? Do you like it? If you did get it would you still purchase it again? Wednesday evening QVC had it on and it looks fantastic! I was thinking of surprising DH with it for Valentines Day since I never did get him a netbook for Christmas.

The speed of a netbook depends on the netbook and your connection...they are not all created equal. We have had 2 for my dd. The first was the Acer. The connection speed was great and it was just great for her to do homework assignments on, but because the screen is small, the constant scrolling really bugged her. When that computer had an accident with the kitchen floor, we replaced it with a remanufactured msi. She likes the new one much better, mainly because it has a webcam so she can videochat with her friends. It is very fast.
