As we discussed in chat, you gotta get to Disneyland if you've never been! It has some great attractions the world just doesn't have. Here are a few pics from when DH and I went last October. (no kids! :p )

This is on the new Tom Sawyers Island/ now called Pirate's Lair.

When were you there in October? The reason I ask, is our family was also there!

We never did get over to Pirate's Liar. I do love the Haunted Mansion for the Holidays!!

So, when is this 2009 Disneyland SR meet??

Yes we were there in Oct- the HORRIBLE weekend of the WINDS and smoke/fires. Tons and tons of people left early on Sunday, fireworks/Fantasmic canceled, we eventually left early too cause the wind and smoke in the eyes was too much. Still fun to be away just the two of us. And we used SR money for several meals and PINS! When were you there?

We loosely discussed a DL SR meet in 2009 in chat on Friday. Cindy brought it up as a possibility.

I've got at least 500 (ok, probably 10x that :rotfl: ) photos to DL if anyone wants to see some more. I can link a few shutterfly accounts. I will say they do have my kids in them. Of course they are the cutest kids in the world so they wouldn't be hard to look at. ;)

The pictures are great! I'd love to see more! My parents took me to disneyland twice (drove there from NJ!), but I was 3 yrs old on the first trip and 5 yrs old on the second so I really don't remember much. I vaguely remember looking up at a large pirate ship which we didn't go on. It might have been a restaurant?? For some reason that is the one thing that really sticks out in my mind. Crazy. Someday I'd love to go back!

OK, here are some very DL specific pics from our June 2006 trip:

This is DL's Teacups- behind it you can see Monstro, whose mouth you glide thru on the StorybookLand Canal boats-
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b18/disnychck/june06156.jpg

Tiki bird grotto - at DL, you sit in a little courtyard and there is a preshow with about 9 tiki gods who talk and move, etc.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b18/disnychck/june06170.jpg

This isn't a good pic as far as the scope of Toontown, but it's WAY more interactive- mailboxes to pull, step on manholes and someone talks to you, etc. Really neat-

They have the COOLEST parade right now that they introduced for the 50th birthday- I was in tears and agape, it's SO AWESOME. This is the Pinocchio float- you can see the marionettes on stretchy rubber things- they would bounce and flip and do all these cool acrobatics. Then there was a Little Mermaid float, Alice in Wonderland where they had a whole tumbling mat thing on the tea party table where they would do more acrobatics, a Lion King float....it is AWESOME. DH and I didn't see it last Oct and I sorely regret it.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b18/disnychck/june06180.jpg

Lots of interactive stuff over at DCA for the kids- this is at Redwood Creek challenge, which had rope climbs, tunnels, and this zip line that my younger son is doing- good fun!
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b18/disnychck/june06246.jpg

Interactive fountain in the Bug's Life area of DCA- more fun for little ones!

I honestly don't know. I used to go about 1-2 times per year when I lived in CA. Now we go every other year? It's fiscally CHEAPER for us to make a vacation to WDW- isn't that crazy? Hotels are cheaper at WDW for us, and the airfare has been about the same. Weird.

DH has his preliminary orders for Iraq for 2009 (Jan I think). If he does go, then I bet my parents would go to disneyland with me with the kids at some point in 2009. If he is home, I'm not sure we would do DL- he's kind of sick of it. :p

The pinocchio ride is rather cute, too. Let's see, off the top of my head, DL has these rides that WDW does not have:
Pinocchio
Alice in Wonderland
Matterhorn
Casey Jr train
Storybook Land Canal Boats
Roger Rabbit's car toon spin
Finding Nemo Submarines
Indiana Jones (ride is like Dinosaur, but better)
DL still has the Canoes

New Orleans Square (but no Liberty Square)

Rides that are QUITE different at DL-
Pirates
Buzz Lightyear (the guns come out of their holster, game a little more interactive)
Space Mountain (smoother, music soundtrack)

Plus lots of rides at DCA, namely the big Roller Coaster, Monsters Inc, Grizzly River Run. A lot of rides they have at DCA are at WDW though (soarin, TOT, Playhouse Disney, Turtle Talk).

I have to say that i think Dining is WAY better at WDW. The food was very 'eh' when we went in October. Maybe we ate at the wrong places. Some decent restaurants at the hotels, but the park food was lacking. :( I used to LOVE to eat at DL, but the last 2-3 trips have been disappointing.

I so understand the "cheaper" to go to WDW. When we wwent to WDW last year everyone asked why we just didn't go to Disneyland. But airfare was the same price to Florida, we could stay onsite fairly cheap renting DVC points,we did not have to rent a car, and there were so many more options for meals. Somday we will drive down there but that will be when the kids are a bit older.

I can't wait to go to DL but I want my kids to be a bit older so they can tolerate the time change with out me being annoyed that they are not good, ie tired when they need to be up & running.

I so want to go. I only went there once in 1977 & I was 5 going on 6 so I don't remember much other then that is where I rode Space Mountain for the first time.

And the hotel we stayed at by the beach had dolphins & I threw a Tic Tac for them to eat & when they cleaned the dolphin tank I swear the Tic Tac was still there.

AWESOME~ thanks for the Alice pics! I love that ride- it's the best dark ride IMHO. And WHAT kind of camera do you have where you were able to get such GREAT pics of the sub ride? Wow!

Thank you!!It was really hard taking pics in that ride!! lol I have pics of Nemo and Dory but they are really blurry. As for the camera it was my Christmas present of 06 this is what it looks like:

I am still amazed- will have to look into that camera! Between the darkness of the inside of the sub, and how closeup you have to be to the window to see out- WOW- such clarity! And even on the dark rides- you took those pics without a flash? They're so CLEAR, considering you're moving!

Thanks for the more DL pics and the slide shows WOOT they were great :woohoo:

And yes its true that for most cameras to get a good shot you need to use your flash on the Darkrides... I know bad....

Iunderstand a good scrapping pic.

The dark rides aren't so bad if you use a flash, cause USUALLY no one else is in the section with you.

It's Pirates or Haunted or Small World the drive me NUTS! Hello! There is a whole nother boat load of people right here. Our whole boat had to yell at a guy in DL, cause he wouldn't knock it off. Finally, twice, the CMs got on the loud speaker and told him to STOP IT. Ugh.
