yet another shopping / cookies question

I did try to search, but only came up w/ clearing before shopping. How long is recommended for clearing cookies AFTER you shopped? I seem to remember reading 2-3 hours, but also up to 24 hours?

On the same subject, how do these cookies work? That is, why do you have to wait so long to clear? Can they be tracked even though you are no longer on the site?

I am hoping Janet will pop in to answer your question. She told someone on another thread yesterday to wait a few hours after shopping to clear cookies. I went searching, but I can't remember what thread it was on. Anyway, bumping up so someone who knows for sure can give you an answer.

Theoretically, you do not have to wait. But because so many people multitask between windows while they shop, take surveys, etc. we tell you to wait a couple of hours just to make sure that your order has tracked completely.
