Buy it now or bidding on auction

do I need to bid and win, just bid or can I use buy it now to complete the ebay offer?

I've searched the threads and found a couple of times where this was asked but never found an answer.

I believe it is just make a bid. You do not need to win the item.

Thanks for answering, I had found a store I wanted to buy from but all they have is "buy it now" items so I was wondering if that was all I needed to do to complete the signup offer, but I guess I will also bid on something to make sure.

I got credit and I didn't win the auction, I just bid a couple of times on one. And the credit came quicker than I expected!
