If you have ever considered trying a company to protect you from fraud, try this one now. I had an extensive talk with my bank yesterday about them and they were very much in their corner. I also mentioned it to a credit card company that called and offered me the same service (on their cards) and they too were impressed with this company. For only 10.00 a month, I think its a pretty good safety net. I'd like to think for the price of a lunch at Mickey D's that I'm keeping myself safe from all those con artists out there that are getting my personal info.

I have to say that I kinda like them too even though I haven't tried them yet. I did a blog on them the other day about an article I read where the credit reporting agencies (yuck!) don't like Lifelock very much because Lifelock is costing the agencies money. These services that Lifelock offers creates more work for the agencies in that they have to go a few extra steps to verify that the person requesting the credit reports actually have the approval of the person before they can release the report. This is wonderful for me. This means less of the pre-approved credit card offers. Lifelock also lessens the amount of junk mail that you get because not just anyone can get your credit history and then send you junk in the mail. The credit reporting agencies are also angry because Lifelock is charging for a service that people can do themselves. First, that is true but so do the reporting agencies. All of their services that are similar can be done by the everyday person but you pay ALOT more. Second, who wants to have to monitor their reports that closely? Who has the time to do that? Lifelock renews your fraud alerts for you since the reporting agencies only allow those to stay for 60-90 days and then they drop off. I think the $10 a month is well worth the convienence of not having to monitor that stuff yourself. Anyone that thinks that someone may have gotten access to their info or who participate in activities that could lead to identity theft should really look into this service and try it out.
Eta: this also cost the credit reporting agencies because it prevents them from selling your information to other companies. This alone is worth it to me LOL I don't believe that companies that are so deeply involved in providing information about
your credit history should be allowed to make money off of selling that information.
I joined just now. I was glad to see SR had it as an offer. As a victim of identity theft, I can say it is a nightmare that goes ON and ON. It is amazing that even with a fraud alert on my credit report that this person continues to open accounts using my name, ssn, and driver's license number of all things in TX. I live in TN. I have no idea how it happened. This has been going on for more than 2 years. I have been to the police station more times than I want to even think about because of it.
Anything that will help is certainly worth it! Thanks SR!:cooldance:

There was a movie on tv just the other night about this. It showed how easy it was for the perpertrator to prove they were the victim, but how hard it was for the victim to prove that they weren't the ones applying for credit cards and running up the bills. Its astounding the number of people that have had fraudulent charges put on their credit cards. Tricia herself had a credit card that never even left her house show up with two fraudulent charges on it, and she had only used it 4 times. Another amazing fact is taht 50% of all victims were actually victimized by someone they knew, after all, who else knows you better and can get access to your info. One in Six people will be fraud victims. The big penalty for committing fraud, 2 years in jail, maybe. So, with such a light sentence, if any, there isn't any real big fear for people to try it. Its crazy, an invasion of your privacy, and can ruin your credit for life. As for the credit bureaus, my impression of them is a bunch of fat old ladies sitting around trying to find out as much as they can about you so they can sell it to anyone. They are rude and unscrupulous and are the hardest people on the earth to work with, I think they are all former IRS workers. LOL

I had originally asked Tricia for this offer, and now I feel guilty because I have not yet signed up! I talked to my dh, and we both think it's a good idea but the put a fraud alert on your cc's when you join and I am worried that my cc will be denied if I use it for online of phone purchases. This has been happening already with my Disney card, and I don't want it to start happening with any of my cards. Anyone have any info on this, because this is the only thing holding me back from this offer.
I also have done some research on them, and they seem like a very reputable company with a very needed service. I figure with all the stuff I do online, that I can use the extra protection, but I don't want it to mess up any of my purchases.
Funny, that I was just goint to post a question on this very topic tonight!!:)

Sad but true.:( This person keeps opening cell phone accounts and other utilities. She uses my information and some lame apartment address that no lives at. How do you get say Direct TV when you give the wrong address? Why woudl a TX Direct TV company give service to someone using a TN DL? She must be saying she just moved etc.
Don't even know anyone in TX. I do know that a college I attended had their computers stolen with student ids and such. Isn't that lovely?
Meanwhile all the crap keeps showing on my credit report. I have to call and explain to each company that it is not me and fax the police report each time. It gets old. How is she able to continue with a fraud alert on my account? I would like to get a hold of her. She would regret the day she ever got my name. Thanks to her my credit now STINKS. Nothing I can do about it either.
I also signed my kids up for LifeLock. I am taking no chances again. I hope LifeLock can catch her.

The fraud alert has not kept me from using my cc. LL keeps a fraud alert on your credit report forever that way you get alerts when someone is trying to open new credit. It amounts to a phone call to verify that it is indeed you applying for credit. That is if the company even acknowledges it.
My thief must be smart because she does not cause me to get any calls that or she finds a way around the credit checks. Not sure how. Believe me, as a victim, if LL can help any at all it is more that worth the $$. The headaches the thief has caused me and my family just keeps going and going.

How very odd....the case this movie took place in as TX also. The only way she got busted was running drugs in New Mexico. Interesting.

Yikes - I wonder if Disney is having a problem. My parents have been having all kinds of issues with their card! And I had a problem the other day!

I tried to pay a bill over the phone using the Disney card a couple of weeks ago and it was denied. got it straighted out with a phone call, then went to pay a bill online and was denied again. Another phone call....This has happened before too. While I appreciate the protection, it gets old and embarassing to be denied just to pay a $50 bill by phone.
