private message with no posts

I just got a pm from a person with no posts. its kind of a generic "hi i'm new" kind of message but it has a link at the bottom of the message to their private site.

I don't post alot on the forums so this is kind of weird to me.

Thanks for posting. I was trying to figure out who he was targeting because I saw him pm'ing for a while but everyone I asked said they hadn't received anything.

If it happens again just pm a mod about it so we can start acting on it.

Hey Guys there is no need to forward the pm to a mod if it relates to the one from this morning (adverts for a satellite website for some junky userid) as it has been taken care of and the person is banned.

I hate spammers. They take all the work that someone else has done building a site and a reputation and then piss off their members with stupid junk. GRRRRRRRR. Please know that there is no way that they got any of your email addresses or anything like that. They used only the Private Message tool of the forum to send their messages. I banned their IP address and SG is making sure we get upgraded to the most recent version of the forum script to close any known security holes.

Well I have been on and it just popped up for me. So I think it must be brand new BUT maybe it took awhile to come through for me? Doubt that but who knows

I received a second one from someone I didn't know this morning as well BUT looked at the number of posts (definitely more than 1!) and thought: hmmmmmm........

Turns out it was a friend who was on the DVC member cruise with us back in 2006! It was great catching up with her!

So I got a bad one AND a good one. I'm just one happy camper! :cooldance:

I was just coming to post this. Interesting that so many people got it! I must admit that it did get me to open it. It was addressed "Hi Mandi!" or something like that, so I assumed that it was someone I knew from another site or something PM'ing to say they were here.

Oh well, I guess some people don't have anything better to do with their time than send out loads of PM's trying to drum up business. :rolleyes:
