That is a very good question! I keep thinking that it won't, but Google is starting to get aggressive about MAKING it take off. Like now linking it to leaving comments on YouTube. I think they are going to try everything they can.

They have also started changing their search results to add extra results for things that people post on G+ with a hashtag.
